Gibbons Creek is not too far, there seems to be a lot of bank access for bass and especially cats, Brazos River if you know someone with kayaks. Somerville Reservoir has a couple of crappie(fish) docks but they might be high and dry right now. Good luck!

Not a lot of public accessible creeks worth a darn around B/CS, Lake Bryan is a wasteland as far as fishing goes, the muddy Brazos river is really hard to access and is only good for catfish, carp and gar. At 20 miles out Gibbons is probably the best bet for bass, crappie and cats. 30+ miles out is Lake Somerville which has suffered greatly from the drought and although there is lots of shoreline to fish not much is happening from what I hear. All but two of the private lakes I fish have dried up and died and those that remain will not survive another summer like 2011. Opportunities were pretty limited before the drought but now after just "round one" of the dry conditions we are nearly done..

Bush Library Pond-catch and release only(bass, few crappie, sunfish) (#1 timewaster pond for bass, can be feast or famine though) Central Park (catfish, bass, trout in winter) Police Station Pond(bass, sunfish, small crappie) Pond behind Target in Bryan (bass, sunfish, crappie) Carter Creek at William D. Fitch (spotted bass, catfish) Little Brazos(bass, small sunfish) Gabbard Park (probably nearly dried up, but bass/sunfish) Somerville/Yegua Creek (if we ever get a normal year white bass/crappie/bass)
Bastrop, Fayette, and Conroe are worth the drive to bass fish vs. the rest.
I used to quickly hit a lot of the City ponds in college station in an afternoon and it was nothing to catch a handfull between 1-3 pounds.
The Bush Library has loads of 1-2 lb fish, but can be tough. I've caught as many as 60 in 2 hours though (they'd just restocked the pond).

I have seen several nice reports from the Bush Library Pond over the past year.

If you're going to fish the library pond, use ultralite stuff, and be ready to break off a few times. Fish are tiny in there.
