lets pretend you were gonna do some big blue and flathead fishing from the bank and you were gonna buy some 10' spinning rods. what reels would you want to buy to go with them? You only have 50 to 70 bucks to spend per reel. What reel do you think provides the best bang for the buck?

Cabelas Saltstriker 65-80 +1...I believe the deerstrangler uses the 65 series. I have used his and I liked them quite a bit. I would be tempted to try the okuma avenger bait feeder reel. They are quite bit cheaper on amazon.com and walmart.com.

looking for some bank fishermen to chime in here too. Not that I don't respect these guys with boats opinions but I'd like to hear from other bankers as to what they like.

What would be an option for the 8ft proangler rod? I have the Quantum 40's but want to upgrade to a better reel.

The only thing I dont like about about 60+ series is the bulkiness. I like the power and features just not the bulk.
I do have a set up with the catmaxx 60 and thats my only drawback.

I like the balance that the 65 has but they make the same reel in a 45 or 50 I believe. Mine have right at 300 yards of mono on them. They make great boat set ups for kings and cuda on the coast.

Im going to have to chck them out. Ive used the 40's for about a year or more but I like to use them on cork rigs for fishing and casting close to the bank. I always make a mess outta the baitcasters when I try to use them in this manner lol

I have a question that will just show my novice colors.....why don't y'all use the same rods/reels for bank and boat fishing? I'm a banker, but it seems that my rods would work on a boat as well. Is there that much of a difference in the bite that a different rod and reel would make that much of a difference? If I end up getting a boat do I really need separate rigs? I'd like to hear your opinions on this so I can learn a thing or two. Thanks.

Dcm nailed it. You can bank fish with a rod that is a little shorter, but its clumsy to use a 10' or 12' rod in a boat. It can be done, its just a bigger hassle.

i use 9' rods from a boat with no problems ... i think i could use a 10' with out too much trouble
main thing to remember when using spinning gear is that the dia. of the spool on the reel needs to somewhat match up with the stripper guide (for all you hicks that's the big eye) on the rod ... the stripper guide needs to be big enuff to not choke the line down too much, cuts down on casting distance ... i'm sure the combos that have been mentioned are proportioned right are they would not be recommending them
