He was probably training for when he gets his Ranger.

Not sure why he would be considered a "fool" he has as much right to that water as you do. If he was training then he was training ... There was an event held on Lake Barkley last summer where over 200 Kayaker's were paddling from the LBL side back to the Barkely State Resort Park in blinding early morning fog. No Angler's in bassboats had an issue with the kayakers being in the main river channel or navigation channels back to the state park. All the anglers respected the smaller craft and gave-way for safe travels. As a "powered" vessel it is our responsibility to watch out for those crafts undersail or other means of mobility.

I am assuming he was swimming and dragging the yak? If so he should probably put a diver down flag on the yak.

I saw a guy last October doing the same thing. I don't have a problem with swimming and pulling your kayak, but doing it across boat lanes seems very risky on his part. Especially on Joe Pool with all the jet skis and wakeboarders that have no respect for anyone else on the lake.

Since he is probably pretty good shape you would be better off fighting him while he is still in the water and you are swinging a boat paddle fromthe bow of the boat.

I think he was referring more to the rudeness of the jackhole than the actual act of kayaking.

Maybe I'm dense, but what would you be training for by dragging your kayak across a lake? Improving swimming strength and/or endurance for a triathlon is the only thing I can come up with, but I would think there are much better/safer ways to do that.

If anyone ever sees me out there in this situation, I would very much appreciate an offer of assistance!!!

Perhaps he was training in the cold water and pulling his yak because he's going into Seal training?

Don't know for sure, but it makes sense to me that he's training for a swimming event, and the kayak serves 3 purposes:
A> Resistance
B> Visibility so he doesn't get run over in the water (it worked in this case at least!) and
C> in case he has a bad day and for some reason can't swim it safely back, he has an alternate mode of transport to safety.

Just theories on my part, I had enough trouble passing the scout safety swimming test doing like 8 laps in an olympic pool, so won't see me pullin a yak anytime soon.

I gotta agree, give the guy a break. He's at least pulling something that makes him visible and is probably sick of having to stop and explain himself which is really annoying when engaged in crazy hard core exercise like that in cold water. He probably has to concentrate intensely on his breathing and stroke. Leave people alone unless they look incapacitated or are signaling for help.
