let me know when you find out. My insurance has me grabbing my ankles right now over the krap I was taking. I love those POS insurers. "I see you've been taking drug X for a few months. I think that's too expensive, you should be taking drug Y". Since when did those SOBs have their MDs?

Cure:
Drink a cup of the pickling juice from a jar of pickled jalapenos.

How to avoid:
Don't eat the jalapenos.

prilosec otc, once a day. my doctor put me on it about 5 years ago and i have literally not had one second of heartburn since. i used to get it very badly, especially bothersome at night.

Quit dipping Copenhagen, stop the caffeine, not so much spicy stuff. I haven't eaten a rolaid or tum's in 15 yrs. since i have did this.

I usually take Zegerid once a day, if I forget to and have a bout of heartburn, I will grab some baking soda, and eat about a tablespoon of it, and swallow it with a glass of water. Makes for some good burps, and gets rid of the heartburn pretty quick.

Milk is one of the worst things to cure it.

Seriously give this a try, as a old school pharmasist told me about it a few years ago, and damed if it did work.

Eat some celery.

Also, once I was in a bar, and had a terrible case of heartburn. I asked the bartender if they sold Tums, she said no, but then poured me a drink, I seem to recall it being about 3/4 club soda, 1/4 Worcestershire sauce. It tasted terrible, but it worked.

Celery. It works

Hard to swallow a whole stalk of it at once. Took me almost a gallon of milk to get it down. Next time I am gonna cut it up and chew the pieces.

What TexDawg said. I get by with taking one every other day. Celery doesn't work for me.

from the recommendations here I tried celery. didn't really do much. LIVESTRONG.com said celery is somewhat caustic but not anywhere near strong enough to neutrailize stomach acid. there are people who have reported that it worked for them though.
