I've known Jimmy Houston a long time. He doesn't drink alcohol nor does he "party". He is a fine Christian man who has supported many charitable causes throughout his 40+ year career and has donated literally thousands of dollars to charity events that promote youth and the outdoors. So one can't be a "fine Christian man" if they drink or "party"?

You can read what you want into it. I never said that a fine Christian man couldn't drink or party. Edit: I want to add that personally, I ain't against drinking or partying. I spent 20 years inside a beer can and drank enough beer in my life to float the Battleship Texas. And as a professional musician, I've seen more than alot of you. But I quit drinking alcohol 16+ years ago and I never was into drugs or the left-handed cigs but TO EACH HIS OWN! Party on Garth!

I was fortunate enough to spend the day fishing with him on his private lake at his home in OK courtousy of a charity giveaway by him. I had several observations. 1. He is a very astute business man with a degree in economics and a very in depth knowledge of business and politics. 2. He has strong beliefs in regards to alcohol to the extent that he has resisted selling it retail at his shops. 3. He loves to fish. We started early in the morning and he wouldn't come off the lake until dark at the end of the day when he was just fishing a throw away day with me as a charitable giveaway. Almost double the fishing you would get from a day on the lake with a guide. Great Experience. Good guy.

You can read what you want into it. I never said that a fine Christian man couldn't drink or party. Definitely close enough for inference, but i'm glad that wasn't your meaning. Gal 5:19 - Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, Gal 5:20 - idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, Gal 5:21 - envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.1Cr 6:9 - Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, 1Cr 6:10 - nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. Rom 13:12 - The night is almost gone, and the day is near. Therefore let us lay aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Rom 13:13 - Let us behave properly as in the day, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and sensuality, not in strife and jealousy. Rom 13:14 - But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts.Eph 5:15 - Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, Eph 5:16 - making the most of your time, because the days are evil. Eph 5:17 - So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. Eph 5:18 - And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit, 1Pe 4:2 - so as to live the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for the lusts of men, but for the will of God. 1Pe 4:3 - For the time already past is sufficient for you to have carried out the desire of the Gentiles, having pursued a course of sensuality, lusts, drunkenness, carousing, drinking parties and abominable idolatries. Carousing-used generally of feasts and drinking parties that are protracted till late at night and indulge in revelry. Let's summarize- drinking and partying is referred to as deeds of the flesh, practiced by those who will not inherit heaven, unrighteous, again stated will not inherit heaven, deeds of darkness, behaving improperly, fleshly lust, unwise, foolish, not understanding God's will, lusts of common men. No you are not a fine christian man if you drink and party, if you are a christian man at all. My suspicion is that many "fine christian men" will find themselves in hell one day if they don't wise up.

Does anyone have an idea if a Bass Pro ball cap signed by Jimmy Houston Is worth anything? I've got a kid's Camo Ranger Boats Cap autographed by none other than Jimmy Houston myself.

Drinking dont mean drunk.
I have had drinks at a party, but never been to a drinking party.
again, everything is up for interpretation. You can read it, and however you interpret it is correct, the only person who can tell you its wrong is a preacher, and he is just a man with his own interpretations of what something means, Ill trust my own judgement before I let another tell me how to conduct my life. If you have trouble interpreting that then there isn't much hope for you to understand anything from the Bible. The Bible never says you can't drink. It says you can't get drunk or indulge alcohol as a pastime. Pretty clear.

thats what I said, Drinking dont mean drunk. But i know So called Christians who think Drinking in itself is wrong, I feel as if those are the people who dont have a clue and cant interpret.
I dont have a problem interpreting, I will never allow someone to do it for me or try to change what I read into something they read. It's a fine line sometimes, letting someone help you because we all need help and letting someone lead you around and tell you what to believe, which is a lot of what goes on in church.

I heard a pastor of a big church say one time, "If you ever heard the number of family tragedies, hardships and suffering that had been caused by alcohol that I have heard, you could never be an advocate for drinking." This was his viewpoint about drinking:
1)If you don't drink, don't start. 2)If you do drink, you must be able to control it. 3)If you can't control it, stop drinking now and never drink again.

Preaching through condemnation is always the best way to win hearts and minds, apparently. It's useless palaver like that from the Pentecostals which made me switch to being a Methodist. Leave the judgment to God, because what man says or believes is a pretty piddly thing, even if it comes from Peter. 1)If you don't drink, don't start. 2)If you do drink, you must be able to control it. 3)If you can't control it, stop drinking now and never drink again.
That said, I do agree with points two and three, but this should be the case for any sort of life-altering changes that involve addiction of any time.

It's the perverted version of Christianity that so many practice. Your version of christianity doesn't measure up very well to scripture does it? Saying something is wrong isn't judging someone. It's warning someone. Read it again, what did it say? "I'm warning you, just like I have forewarned you", you can't practice such things and inherit heaven. Pretty clear.

This thread was about the worth of a man's autograph. Not about religion. Davo, if you want to talk religion, take it upstairs to the Bunker.
