Didn't know you can still buy cow brain. I thought MAD cow disease stop that business operation...plus the cow will be mad if they know youre using their brain for bait.

If you find cow brains please post the location. I understand they are no longer available due to mad cow disease. Pork brains are almost impossible to find as well.

We get our pork brains when we kill feral hogs. I also got a friend that guides for feral hogs, so it can be easy at times to get them.

That is a great idea using wild hog brains. I was thinking about baiting my favorite fishing hole with a whole wild hog... has anyone ever tried that? Not to be morbid but I pass a pitbull smashed on the side of the road every few days, Im gonna have to start selling pit bull brain stink bait. WHAT IS BETTER HOG BRAINS OR SHAD?

I FOUND BILL'S BRAINS AND CHEESE! They had 2 jars at Causeway marina @ cedar creek lake. I looked at the address said 418 N Second, Sapulpa Oklahoma 74066 Bill's catfish bait. I dont use anything but fresh shad for fishing blue catfish now, I guess I upgraded.

I wouldn't think brains would be hard to find. They serve them in authentic mexican food restaurants as barbacoa, its pretty damn good too. Check out a local mexican meat market. Maybe even a Fiesta Mart if those are still around.

This fish was floatin behind my camp so I thought I would sink it to the bottom. I thought it would attract catfish but apparently this and all the fish we clean have been bringing in alot of TURTLES. I am about to start relocating turtles, Does anyone know how to get rid of them?

barbacoa dont have brains in it. It is supposed to be made from cow head or cow cheek but most taqorias sell cow NECK as barbacoa. barbacua is like $10 a pound. I would eat them tacos before I would feed it to the lake LOL!

If you want to make some at home or maybe not home but close. For brains try a Oriental typ stor. I have bought brains for one in Richardson. Look for out dated you can get it cheeper. I made a gallon for about $5.00 a few years back http://www.whiskerkitty.com/bells_of_hell_bait.html

Grand Dad used to mix hog brains, old cheese, and pureed shad, place into a paint can and set it out in the sun. I remember it would swell to about twice the amount placed in the can. I also remember why I didn't like to fish with Grand Dad very often. That stuff smelled awful, but we did catch a lot of catfish with it.
He is truly a sick individual.

I make a bait from equal parts of cheese, pork brains, and ground up meat fat (5 lbs. of each). Let it rot (stirring occasionally) and mix in cattails to thicken. I call it Catish Candy. Works great, stays on the hook, and lasts in a sealed container forever practically. I personally caught 1,500 cats in Fork with it in 2011 when I kept accurate records. I don't sell it any more except to friends so don't mind sharing the recipe. I get my pork brains from Columbia Meat Packing based in Dallas.

The go-to stinkbait recipe I grew up with was beef brains, limburger cheese, and some oil of anus. This company makes some excellent dip bait: http://cattracker.com/index.phpI'm from OK, and used to use Bill's, and had good luck with it. The best local stinkbait is O'henry's, made in Gracemont, OK.

My uncle brought some bison liver from a bison he had killed. But it didn't work very well. My guess is cow brains would just attract turtles.

If it is shallow enough, I've seen people partially submerge a 50 gallon drum, and then they create ramps up to the top with boards. They design a latch that when the turtle goes to sun himself he falls in, due to his weight being on the latch.
Other than that having a .22 handy will do the trick.

Where in Richardson? I checked all the oriental and Mexican markets with no luck. You will have to look around at some of the asion food stores. I bought 5 lbs a few years ago that was out of date a by a few weeks. I found it at a store south of Beltline, west of Greenville ave. I made a bucket of Bells of Hell gave most of it away.

Brains are for tanning leather. Cheese and bacon grease for making catfish bait and in a pinch you can make a good sammich on saltine crackers. I like to add garlic to mine. Yummmmmmmm Garlic cheese bacon dough on a saltine ain't bad if'n you hongry. I call it Catfish Cocaine cause they get hooked on it:)

Just cracked the lid on a 55 gal drum of hog brains, shad guts and ground shad with about 75 lbs of cheese. been sitting for 2yrs, just about lost my cookies on this batch. Now to add the cotton fiber my buddy gets from his brother who farms cotton. Post a pick of it when I get the first batch in the bucket. Been using Big Marv's for the last few years and have done great with it, but just had to try the old family recipe again. Also had a place to do it out of town. cause this will have the people up in arms if you do it in town.

Many years ago used to buy beef brains at a slaughter house and fish flooded rice fields when the early spring rains hit. The fields would flood 5' to 6' deep and the irrigation ditches connecting the fields would be an extra 3'-4' deep. The cats would use these ditches like highways to move all around the flooded areas. They would feed at night then go back to the deeper ditches in the daylight hours. We would drift over a ditch and then anchor and pitch the fresh beef brains out up and down the ditch. Was very effective. I didn't care for the bait, but the old guy who showed me this way of fishing swore by them.

My father and I made some stink bait using 5 lbs of beef brains and 4 lbs of sharp cheddar cheese and 1 lb of Limburger cheese. We ground it all up mixed it all together and put it into quart mason jars with the lids on snug but not tight so the fermentation gases could escape. You don't want the jars to explode. Then we put the jars in a container in the garage outdoors and let it ferment for about 3-4 months. You do have to make sure the flies don't get into it or it will be ruined. As far as dip bait goes it was the best that we have ever used.

Picked this up Yesterday from the 55 gallon drum, the white look is the cotton fiber. It will change after it is in for a little bit. This is what I make every 4 to 5 years. And yes it works good
