I am wanting to know of some good sites to throw a tent up for a weekend and do some fishing? I am not limited to Galveston but want to stay in that part of Texas. any feedback would help, we are trying to get a troubled teen out into the wilderness to show him there is more to life then gangbanging!
The state park has water/electricity camping spots on the bay side and on the beach side. The bayside ones are normally lose to water. The beach side ones are a short walk a way from the beach. You can camp directly on the beach, but there is no water/electricity. All of the camping sites have a little picnic table with some sort of cover. The tpwd website has more info on the state park.
Galveston island state park has tent camping on both side..beach and bay side..problem..you have to have reservations about 2 months in advance..and if you do get in....if you stay on the bay side...get ready for some B52 skeeter...
You can't camp on Galveston County beaches. Only at the state park which is always full. You can go anywhere west of SLP bridge. The west bank of SLP is good but sometimes the crazies come in around 2:00 AM.
Anywhere west of the toll bridge all the way (well almost) to Surfside. Done it several times. Be sure and set up above high tide. Can get wet about 3am when the high tide comes in.
Anyway we have camped along the Bluewater highway many times.
