And if you're a pretty and single female, I wont charge you cash to diagnose your broken down car. ( we can work something else out) If you're male or an ugly female, I will. I'm having so much fun with this tonight, I could spit. I think I'll go hang out in the Target parking lot with it. New Toy

Yes, for $5 American. I'm easily amused, but I'm also a committed capitalist. Hmmm...."committed" is something the girlfriend has brought up more than once....

Too much cash for too little info. Android Torque app $6.95, Blue tooth ELM327 OBDII $21. I can pull codes and reset while I am driving. look up the codes on the web from the phone to find likely causes. As well as set up gages for real time info while I am driving on every sensor that it reports. Get real time MPG info while driving, trip average MPG etc etc. It even has a HUD mode so at night with the phone/ tablet on the dash it projects it onto the windshield. Also found out that when the gauge on my truck says I am doing 65 mph. The computer thinks I am doing 64 and the GPS claims its really 63.

I have your Actron's baby brother. It's come in handy on quite a few occasions. Mine only does the code readout, so I downloaded a code translator app. I just leave it in the car with the tool kit, etc.

I'd be paying the phone charges anyway. Harder to read FML without the smartphone, yanno.

Seriously, I learned that my check engine light SHOULD be on right now, but it's NOT !
Found two fault codes....one I dont believe, but the other....oh yeah. down stream o2 sensor. The other is a symptom of the sensor.

I'll have you know both of my Android tablets are WIFI only and have $0 per month fee. A can of spray paint and I can make em any color that I want. Might be hard to read the screen afterwards but dangit I can do it.

It's amazing how long vehicles will store codes, too. When I finally got the code reader last year, it had saved a misfire from a year before when the valve cover gasket began leading into the spark plug hole on cylinder 8. The misfire throws all sorts of other codes, and makes it seem much worse than it really is.

The best deal on diagnostics is the free software that's floating around at bimmerforums where I tend to lurk sometimes. Get the round OBDII cable for under the hood, it goes to a USB port in a laptop, and you can check all systems of the engine, including fuel trim, cylinder function, etc. It's a pain to get working, but it can save some pricy trips to the dealer, and you can fool with the car's settings.

Why did I expect pics of soome leggy redhead? Just messin with ya. Glad you're enjoying yourself. Yanno, if you think about it, its bright orange, complicated piece of equipment, cost a lot of money, and it doesn't actually do anything, it just tells you what to do.

I unlocked the OBC screen on mine, so I can watch the voltage or engine core temperature. That way I can know when it's fully warmed so I can hoon it a bit.

Kate, ya happen to know a ( good looking) leggy redhead who'd like to play house for the weekend once in a while with an old drunk who has a new orange toy ? Haven't enjoyed the company of a redhead lately.

It's Ok. Deb just left. I'm good this weekend. For some reason, she took issue when I offered to plug her into my new toy to see what was wrong with her.

Its amazing how much trouble rum can get you into. And hiding your comments in the glass only compounds the problem.

Whiskey was always the one to get me into trouble. I generally just stick to gin or scotch now, and not much of it.

Ha! They couldn't even get it to work on my car. He figured the OBDII port, located just below the interior climate control unit, was dead. Didn't buy that, so I took it to Advance, who got it to work just fine. Also, if your car is dead somewhere and you can't get it to Auto Zone to pull the codes if it's something more than a dead battery, you're out of luck. Plus, it's nice to be able to clear your own codes yourself.
It doesn't require any training. You plug it in, put the ignition to on, but not start, and press read.

Doesnt autozone do this for free, with people trained to do it? Yeah they do it for free. "Trained to do it" ? At autozone??? Youre just jealous cuz I have an orange toy to play with. But I can do it while I'm driving. It's Ok...I'm an excellent driver. Besides, who wants to go to autozone every time your car hiccups? So you swap out your XZY and then run back to autozone to check it? This is easier and much more fun !
