So I'm pretty new to TFF and I figure this would be the perfect place to get some input. I'm looking to buy a new pair of Costas and I can't decide which lens to get. I know I'll be buying the 580's but I don't know what the pros and cons are to either blue or green. Your thoughts?

I own 2 pair, one is the harpoon 580g, awesome lenses 3yrs old and not a scratch, they are blue and the clarity is amazing. I also have a pair of the brine w/ the 580p amber. The brine are lighter and the clarity is similar to the harpoon. I actually like the Brine better even though they scratch easier, they are lighter and fit my face better.

I hadn't considered amber but that's definitely something to think about. Would you recommend the glass or plastic lenses?

Blue is just cosmetic! Might look cool but they dont protect your eyes from UV..So Green or Grey grin

Blue is better offshore, green is better inshore, amber better in low light clouds

I didn't even know they made a plastic lens,it's either 400 or 580,both of which are glass I believe, and all of mine are 580 so I can't tell u a difference between them. 580 Costas are the best glasses I have ever owned,Fathom blue lens

I read something about the plastic being prone to scratches. I didn't know they made 580 in plastic. I's stay with the glass and go with the green for general use.

the glass lenses are way to heavy... 580P only way to go... i've had mine for over a year and not a scratch on them... have friends with glass lenses and they always have issues! not to mention the issue of trying to hold their head up with all that weight haha

go glass....only option IMHO. I have the harpoons in green lens and the fisch in blue lens. As stated above, green is meant more for inshor flats fishing, and also makes the color RED stand out like a mofo. Blue lenses are for deep water (i use mine at amistad) and I love them

Thanks for all the input everybody. I think I've finally narrowed it down to some Blackfins with the tortoise frame and green 580g lenses. Tried them out at Bass Pro today and I love em. Now I just need to find a cheap pair on eBay... unless someone feels like donating some to me wink haha

I have the blue mirror just because I like darker lenses in the grey color.

Mine are 580G. The glass is not heavy. Glass also blocks out more UV rays which is better for your eyes.

green 580 glass for bass/bay fishing. blue 580 glass for off-shore. glass is heavier than plastic, but much more scratch resistant. i wear green 580 man-o-wars

FYI, the tortoise frames let in more light around the frame. I don't care for them in bright conditions.

I got a pair with the 580P's while shopping with my wife at Macys. They were on clearance for $60.

For fishing, I like the Costas. But for driving I perfer the Oakleys. JMO! smile

+1 on the green inshore and without a doubt go glass... I bought mine then had to buy my wife some for Christmas because she loved them so much. The real test....go down to the lake and look down into the water. The clarity of glass comes through. I fish lakes up here but go down and fish the bays and you won't hardly find anyone fishing the bays alot that don't either wear costa or maui jims. jmho

the 400 series are a poly carbonate. the 580 was originally glass only till they came out with the 580P. I have had a pair of the 580's for years atleast 4 or 5 years and not a scratch they are a little heavy but not uncomfortable.

all im basing my opinion on is my friends glass lenses they are pissed off at lol... my bro barely dropped his from like 3ft. and the lens cracked bad.. i've dropped my 580p's from higher and nothing happened... also my other buddy has the corbina frame i think with the glass and his are "spiderwebbing" all around the lenses where they enter the frame.. it's almost more like sunburst instead of spiderweb.. his are not even a year old... i was thinking of getting a glass pair until i saw these downsides.. ultimatly i think whatever you get you will be happy! costas are bad [censored] shades

i got my pair of black tripletail with the blue mirror 580G lenses. I got them brand new for $150 (thank god for dealer prices) and they are phenomenal off shore and have been great for me sight casting and fishing beds during the spring spawn at a few lakes around here. Next purchase is gonna be with the green 580 lenses. well worth the money

Can someone explain to me why Costa sunglasses are so expensive and why they're so popular? What's the big deal about them?
