Whats better and why?

I use power pro and mono, but considering trying some flour, any suggestions?

I stopped using braid after having to replace several rods due to the braid putting grooves in the guides. I now use the mr. crappie hi-vis and suffix both 6lb test.

i use braid with a flouro leader. if you set the jig on their head you can feel what they're thinking.

I got tired of the memory Mr. Crappie line has, so I switched all my reels to Power Pro. Only used it the last two trips, but think I'm going to like it. I don't use a floro leader while fishing deep in the winter. Will probably start using a leader when crappie get shallower.

Me too. I use 10lb Power Pro in High Vis yellow with 8lb Berkley Vanish leader on all my rigs. The reason for me is NO memory and braid is very sensitive. Why the leader? Because if the fish are finicky due to line there is an advantage and if you hang up you can always break your flouro line without cutting your hand breaking braid. It's the best of both worlds and I have never lost a fish (knock on wood) due to my knot between the flouro and braid.

I grew up using mono because that's all we had. I love braid because of the small dia and large lb test. Plus it has low memory! Floro is great as leader material but i don't like it as a main line. If i were gonna rig up a crappie rig it would be hi-vis mono second only to power pro braid. When you use 8-10 lb braid just carry a sharpie marker and color the last 3' black or red just to camouflage the line. Just my .02

I only use braid when fishing corks. Braid has a wax finish, allowing the line to float on top of the water.

thanks for the input folks, I'm debating which way I want to set this dobyns rod up. I have a both the power pro and my crappie on all my rigs, just wonding if I need to "step out" and try something new.

I haven't had any issues with power pro floating, just the occsional nasty look from my fishing partner when I hang into a brush pile blush

Sufix has a new braid that stretches just a bit, I just spooled some on, so im hoping its going to be what I was looking for, before that I like the power pro, tied to a tiny swivel, then any light mono as a leader. the reason for the swivel, the braid will cut into the mono if tied directly to it. the new stuff im trying is called sufix performance stretch braid. 6 percent stretch. 10 lb test.

I use both because not every situation is the same. For instance fishing thick brush braid will get your jig back. Now in open water flouro seems to get more bites.Fishing deep say 30 to 45 ft. of water I like the carolina jig rig, using braid to the swivel then a short flouro leader. This allows me to feel the deep bite better and less stretch when you set the hook. Each line has its time and place on the water, dont get stuck in a rut experiment when you can and see what works best for you.

10# Fireline w/ 8# Seaguar InvisX leader. All I've used for about the past 3 years. The sensitivity can't be beat. I fished one day back in the fall with some good mono (Sufix) and even with my pet Dobyns the sensitivity just wasn't the same. I missed several hook sets too just because of the stretch in the mono. With Fireline hook sets, even in 20' of water are nothing more than a wrist snap.

rolfmao I know a friend that told me to use 65lb braid when bass fishing with a jig, I asked him, why, hell I've never seen 10lb braid break... I've seen brushpiles pulled up, line cut, knots slip but never seen it break.... I stop using braid years ago for crappie.. Bass fishing, most of my reels are spooled with flouro one with braid, two with mono... All my crappie gear has Ande mono on it, it has never failed me yet...

As an all purpose line I like hi-vis mono better that braid for crappie. I can use it with a slip float, avoid wind knots and tangles, etc. Braid doesn't transmit the line lift or being "rubbed" by a fish a well as mono. Plus I wind up with more broken rod tips with braid. Having said all that, nothing is better than a thin diameter braid in transmitting the thump, and braid comes in handy when you have a big crappie or you've hooked a bass or catfish that you need to pull out of the brush.

I use the micro barrel swivels like for fly fishing, with a 4-6ft leader of 6lb Mr crappie. Getting Mr crappie to break can be a chore!

thanks guys
