It will not get above 2100 rpm and 8mph. It idles fine and just "bogs down" when it gets to about 2000 rpm. This happened twice to me today. First thing this morning it happened, and I turned it off and cranked back up and it was a little sluggish but it went ahead and got on plane and ran fine all the way to where I wanted to fish. When I wanted to move the second time it did it again. I tried several "fixes" and finally just decided to head back to the ramp at 8mph and 2100rpm. About 15 minutes into the trip, it surged once up to about 2300 and 9.5 mph...back down to 2100 and 8mph for about 5 seconds and then planed out and ran just fine until I got to where I stopped. When I tried to move again, it was the same thing all over again, and it hasn't gotten above 2100 8mph since.

It used a lot of fuel so I don't think it's a problem with fuel flow. I have heard of something like this happening and it being the powerhead, but if it was out - it would be OUT, right? It wouldn't come and go?

Carburetor problems, maybe?

Its not the power head, Id chk the fuel lines and see if the inner core has deteriorated from the ethanol first! Ive got a 1998 225 efi and thats what happened to me. Even though its an EFI you still have the diapram fuel pump, then it goes to the little fuel filter on the motor, then it gets to the EFI unit. Definitely sounds like a fuel problem though.

When was the last time you ran your boat.I let mine sit for a long time and it didn't want to run. Ran some Sea Foam in it and the power cameback.

Mine did the same thing.....Blown Power Head...I had a reed break and drop in..
Plus I had another cylinder going down....
Good news...Rockwall Marine did a great job with my new power head and all is good...

Good luck!

I think I may have gotten out easy...

FYI - before you do anything to extensive, look over your motor real good to check for loose wires. There was a plug disconnected from one of my injectors. Going to try it in the morning. I'm sure this will solve my problem.

I'll report back tomorrow after I try it on the water.

The 1998 efi Does not have an injector at each cylinder so if the 99 does so beit. Im not the one that cant fix my own problem here lol. If you found a plug loose on the back of the motor its a coil pack wire. At least thats what it would be on the 98. Good luck:)

It definitely was an easy thing in my case. The unplugged wire off of the coil pack was the trick.

I appreciate all the advice from everyone. Hopefully I can pay it back sometime.

I've got an 89 blackmax 200 in the shop now for the exact same symptoms. I just hope it's not a larger (more expensive) problem.

Mine did that back in the summer... I changed all the fuel lines, bulb, and filter added sea foam and ran fine ever since
