I think my wife and I are finally going to join the 21st century and get smart phones. We are with at&t so we have missed out on the better deals as far as data packages. How much data do you generally use? I'm thinking the 300 mb package is probably enough for us. We have wifi at the house so that would cut down on our data usage.

wifi helps alot, just seems to run the battery down faster on mine. I wish they would roll over the data plan like they do the minutes though. That would be nice. I lose so many roll over minutes each month. We have the smallest family plan and still never come close to using all our minutes.

We have AT&T, with two phones. One smart phone with a data plan with 2 G of data I think, one without. About $90 a month. Lannie is right about wifi, at home I can use my Verizon router, at work we have wifi. I haven't come close to using the alloted data with AT&T. Then again, I use a PC at work and home. So the phone is secondary.

12 days into my month and I've used 175 mb. Now I use my phone a lot and anytime I need to look something up ( as well as look at the TFF). I also have wifi at home with a iPad and MacBook. And no I don't tether my phone. However, I got with AT&T and got in on the unlimited data plan.

I too just crept into the 21st century. I got my son an iphone 1st and put him on the 200mb plan. I thought it would be plenty. He was scared to even use it the first day. I called the same day and put him on the 2gb plan and told him to go crazy and use it all he wants to see what would happen. He is in school from 8-4 and can't use it and we have wifi at home and in 5 days he used 275mb. So when I got my iphone I didn't even hesitate to get the 2gb plan. I used 70mb the first week and didn't think I really used the phone that much. I would get the 3gb (I think that's what they offer now) and use it for a couple of months and see what your useage is and downgrade if you don't need it.

This month i used 4 gigs of data. if you listen to pandora radio, you will use up 300 megs in a couple hours. i once heard a facebook page averages 30 megs of data,(that may be way off though) if so, thats only 10 web pages...
IMO a smart phone can do sooooo much, its worth it to get the unlimited plan...

I currently have an unlimited data plan on a non smart phone. I mainly use this to check facebook several times a day. I have been using less than 75 MB per month. I realize that I would use more with a smart phone.

Five Words : You Are Paying Too Much It is like $110 plus tax on SPrint for unlimited and Smart fone. Metro is $60 even, and that includes all fees and taxes

Good advice, but I can tell you that AT&T is not so glorius either. Their coverage at my home address is awful and you should hear their recommended fix. Pitiful. Other than my home in Rowlett, it is fine. But still......

They all have drawbacks in coverage, The guy remodeling my house in maypearl had to go all the way out to the street to call his wife, He had Sprint, when I had 5 bars with at&t. The Only place I had a problem was driving thru lower utah.
AT&T is expensive though, I just paid my bill and it was 220.00, thats 2 smartphones, unlimited data, Unlimited Text and 1400 minutes. Wow, I pay 160 for 2 iPhones, unlimited data and text.

metro used to have crappy service at fork not sure if that has changed or not Works so much better now, works on Welsh and Monti too. I was with ATT back in the late 80's/early 90's and they remimd me of them, getting better all the time. ATT is the best coverage and I was with them for like 15 years when Cingular purchased them and the customer service blew with Cingular. They went back to ATT but then I found MetrPCS and they work great for me
