I'm in the used boat market and I saw a Yamaha Pro V Max 150 with a dual Prop. Does anyone know anything about this set up?

It was brought to outboards to eliminate steering torque.and at about the same time sea star hydrolic steering showed up. Volvo penta has been using it for years inboard outboard applications. What happens with dual prop is that one prop turns right the other left eliminating steering torque (pulling on steering wheel while under power). If you think about what it takes to turn 1 prop right and 1 left you will see that their are more things to break when you bump the stump. My opinion is not for me and I don't know how reliable the Yamahopper was it may be bullet proof like the powerhead that powers it. hopefully one of the mechanics chime in with their knowledge and correct me if i'm wrong. For the record I'm a Merc man.

I was looking at a boat that had one and it just didn't seem right for me. +1 on the more parts to break ~ but I'm no mechanic!

My dad bought one brand new in 97 on a zx185. That thing is a torque monster. On our lake there is not many stumps and he is always careful when on others. He is still running it today and never had any problems with it at all, just regular maintenance which is no more expensive. He calls me a trailer because I learned how to fish out his skeeters with yammys and I run rangers with mercs. The motor has got to have upwards of 500-600 hours on stand is a beast. The twin prop puts his boat in plane like a corvette. Great set up. Don't be scared of it just have it looked at first, if I were to buy a Yamaha I would look for one because of the almost 15 years of problem free fishing from my dads.

It is the real deal on a tunnel flats hull though...I wouldn't want one on a bass hull, but the holeshot is amazing on a TRP.

It was such a big joke when Merc dumped the dual prop lower unit on yammy. Today, the dual prop lowers are NLA and Yammy nor merc will build you one.........so when the lower goes south, you will be back to a standard lower unit just like everybody else. Until then, run it like you stole it.

those trp props are expensive!!! and very difficult and expensive to repair.

you can replace that lower unit with a standard case and you'll be much happier.

Yeah but...you can take that TRP and be back in shin deep poot mud, and it'll act like an airboat getting out of some really shallow stuff.

There's a line around the corner of guys on the coast that would be more than happy to swap lower units with you, if you feel the need.
