My cousin and I have started fishing East Matagorda Bay on a somewhat steady basis (about once a month or so), and it's been pretty slow for us... to put it lightly. We've been using artificials (mainly Norton Sand Eel Jr.'s in electric blue/chartreuse tail), but like I said, it's been slow. The only area where we've caught fish is a shell point that extends out to about waist deep water. We're still in the "exploratory phase". Still just trying to physically find some spots to fish. I was curious to see if anyone had any tips/patterns/techniques that they would mind sharing. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Do you have a boat, kayak, or do you wade in? If a boat, do you drift fish or do you get out and wade?

My cousin has a boat, and that's what we've been going in. We've been wading most of the time too.

Lately, I've been doing good on or very near any shell reef or point, so that waist deep shell you've been on or places like that, are what I would target. As always, the weather plays a huge role in everything fishing related. Catch a cloudy, warm, day with a dropping barometer with light winds and you will catch fish in EMB this winter. Bright, clear, sunshine and you may struggle. Try a Bass Assassin 5" chicken on a chain on a 1/4 or 1/8 oz. jig head or if it warms up in the late afernoon there has been a decent topwater bite. Also for drifting the same soft plastic will work very well. Drift the scattered underwater shell or work areas around exposed shell. Remember, a Top Spot map or good gps is your best friend..
