Tile floor in the kitchen just made a LOUD pop, then crackling sounds. When I walk on the tiles in a small area of the kitchen, there is a crunching sound. Could this just be the tiles pulling loose from the substrate? The house is 15 years old--never heard anything like that before.

you may water or something under it. I had something similar happen to tiles over by the kitchen sink. it took about a month to pinpoint exactly where it came from. The first few times, I just thought i'd heard something.

Tap on the tile , does it sound hollow

It's on the opposite side of the kitchen from the sink--water was my first thought. No sign of it anywhere, though. It does sound odd when tapped--like there is a space between it and the substrate.

Are the tiles as old as the house(15yrs?)

Ignore it. Works for me around my house

Definitely sounds lime the thin set broke loose from the tile. Could be many of things... water, house settling, foundation issues...

Do you have rebar?

Yep. Don't go telling me I have to replace them, either--I've convinced the wife they'll last forever!

Look at chaseUNT's post couple of those things could be the cause? If they have been set that long you would have heard the popping before.

I should have made that clarification. At least one of them was from OF.

FB- good possibility with all the rain we've had the ground swelling could move the foundation a lil bit. Take a walk around in the daylight and look at your foundation.
