I just got a call from the school. Yesterday on the bus a kid told my son that he had a fat, sweaty back. He hit the kid once and bloodied his nose and broke one of his teeth. He'll be suspended Monday and Tuesday. While I don't encourage pounding people's faces in, I feel like I've done well raising him. Maybe he went a little far this time, but he's only 12 and he sure ain't gonna be one of those kids that commits suicide because the kids at school are being mean. Bullies don't mess with him more than once and he takes after me in that he'll stick up for other kids who are being bullied. More importantly he ain't gonna take [censored] offa nobody.

I'm sorry that kid had to learn his lesson with such ferocity, but I'm certain that my son has shown him the error of his ways and he'll be more sensitive about how he treats others from here on in.

Don't look for trouble in his direction. He'll give it to ya. This is the second time he's broke another kid's teeth. The first time was a much bigger kid scaring some tiny kid witless. The bully had the little kid pinned in a stall in the bathroom talking about jail-raping him. My son introduced his face to the sink a few times and cost him several teeth. My boy didn't get into trouble because there were a dozen other kids in the restroom watching this happen, but too scared of the big kid to do anything. Well, except for my son. There was enough kids who saw the whole thing that he didn't get into any trouble.

He isn't a psycho, he just ain't one to be jacked with. woot

The kid's dad is USAF so the tooth is insured. If this has to go to court, I'll file some charges of my own for bullying and harassment. After getting more of the story, it turns out that the kid had been picking on him for several weeks. You know the type, a little comment here, a little comment there, trying to be derogatory but too chicken**** to stand up and do something. He was just egging my son on, thinking he'd get a meltdown out of him. HA! He got his effing meltdown.

There's a valuable lesson to be learned here...

I think if the kid is so much of a princess that his parents have to press charges, I'll find the sleaziest lawyer around and file some charges of my own.

DF you may be on to something there. This kid would make one hell of a Marine and I'd be proud to have the honor of my son being a Marine. That's gonna be part of our discussion on Monday and Tuesday, as while he's suspended from school we'll be talking about ways to avoid getting in trouble. I'm betting that the school knows the whole story. He's never once gotten into trouble for standing up to a bully and I don't expect this time to be any different. He has a great relationship with his principal who is a great man that goes out of his way to help all the kids he can and he calls suspension "a few days off" for my son. If he was in trouble they'd have given him ISS.

Well enroll him in some traditional martial arts classes. They teach discipline and respect. They also teach you to not use your skills unless forced to. The bathroom incident is one thing and I would have stepped in if I was there. Being bulliedis entirely different.

Being Asian, I was bullied and called all sorts of names being raised in the deep South in Alabama but never once did I let those words bother me. Stupid people make stupid remarks. Karma gets them in the end. If someone put a hand on me that's another issue altogether but I wouldn't really be proud of my son for punching someone for a comment or comments they have made. Regardless of how bad they were. Fight words with words or reason.

I see what you're saying FO'C. Being Asian, you were raised with the kind of discipline to handle it like that, right? Being Redneck, we were raised to stand up for ourselves. It wasn't just the one comment. The kid had been pushing him for several weeks. My son had been biting it down. When you bite that stuff down it sticks in your craw and unless they back off, it's got to reach a point where somebody reacts which is the goal of the bully. Maybe the poor kid thought he could make my son cry as a reaction. Maybe he thought he was looking tough by picking on a kid who wasn't doing anything about it. Maybe he got what he craved. A reaction. Prolly not the reaction he expected, but he got his reaction.

I totally agree with you about karma. Sometimes karma comes years or even decades down the road. In this case it happened immediately and came in the form of living with the shame he tried to force on somebody else. Karma did it's job as it always does. I'd say those two boys are just about square as far as karma goes.

If all kids stood up for themselves there wouldn't be very many bullies. You can't win every fight, but if you're losing, you can spend the time making certain that they'll BY GOD KNOW THAT FIGHTING YOU IS GONNA COME WITH SOME RECOVERY TIME OF THEIR OWN!

Karma. thumb

Alamo Elementary in Wichita Falls. It's where all the ghetto gansta Gs send their kids. I swear to you, there are kids in that school whose parents are teaching them how to live like they are in prison. Worse stuff than that happened at that school before we took him out. There were kids selling pot. One kid got busted with crack. My son had a group of kids that ate with him and they were the only table where bigger kids didn't take whatever they wanted off the smaller kids' plates. It was rough! That school is pumping out the next generation of convicts and they think that's just the thing to do.

He's a chunky kid and a lot of people don't understand that on a lot of fat guys, there ain't much fat on those arms. There's grown men in my family with smaller arms than his. I can't understand why any kid in his right mind would mess with him unless they thought he wasn't gonna do anything.

And yes. We're gonna look into martial arts for the discipline. But discipline aside, he still ain't gonna let people push him around. That kid was lucky my son got fed up when he did. If he'd bit it down any longer he might have hit him twice. rolfmao

He really isn't a disciplinary problem type kid. He respects authority and does his best to go with the flow and follow the rules. He just wants to be left alone and do his own thing. I don't see how he's wrong in this.

Tell your son to back away from the video games and go play out side. Get him into sports, fishing, etc... The things kids did when I was growing up.

Also, your son should know not to back down. But, do not do it at school. Arse whippings can be done after school. That's what we did.

It's more than that, it's a way of life.

Chad if you are looking for a good home school look at Global Student Network. If he hustles he can graduate ahead of time. Be ready to deal with no sports or after school stuff and to spend some serious time on the computer grading papers though.

Good luck Chad. It's hard raising a son in a tuff school environment. I would just try and help him understand when is the appropriate time to gice a beatdown. Sometimes walking away from a verbal is difficult but it teaches them about self control and helps them develop and inner peace and confidence.

Again good luck with the situation

I didn't say anything he did was wrong and you are right, it's not a disciplinary problem at all. It's just a little too aggressive of a reaction to solve a problem is all. I can see why you are happy he stands up for himself. That's a great attribute. It's just my opinion on it is all that I wouldn't be proud of my kid if he handled it that way. To me that's the last resort not the first rebuttal.

There are many ways you can stand up for yourself without beating the tar out of someone. If someone is insulting you then you talk to them is how I was raised is all. Words are words in the end of things. Yes being Asian, I do not look for trouble nor escalate the issue unless I feel threatened.

That being said, I do know some people you just got to knock them upside the head to get the message across. Those are the people I just feel sorry for.

Keep on keeping on. He's got some raw talent though so get some learning into him to hone his skills. He might end up in the octagon and you might get that double wide yet.

From your experience, home schoolers are weird? Its a guarantee? You spelling 'garauntee' wrong too by the way. No disrespect meant.

Let's not put all home schoolers in a 'weird' category unless you know what you're talking about.

Yeah I saw that auto correct on my iPhone did that for some reason. Oh well.

No home schooler I've ever met possessed the same social skills other kids did. The whole reason they're homeschooled is because their parents don't want them to have a normal growing experience. And yes I know you're going to come back with a list of bad things to quiz me about being normal, but you can't shut the world out.

It's "you're spelling" and not "you spelling" btw.

I would have to agree in part with the wierd comment, a good number of "wierd familes" home school their kids, no way around it, not sayin' home schooled kids are all wierd but there has to be other activities (sports, music something) with "other" people involved. The wierd ones don't do that, just mom, dad and the kids all of the time.

No sir. I respect your opinion. I do not have an agenda bud but I have a dog in this fight. We're (wife and I) not perfect I'm afraid. We make mistakes. Its not easy home schooling. It isn't.

I dislike the idea that home schooled kids are branded with this 'weird' stamp. Many parents do it wrong. Many parents do it right.

I'm sure that the many TFFers that have met my tribe know that my kids aren't 'weird'. They know I'm the weird one.

What does a "normal growing experience" consists of assuming that you have kids?

Getting your boy into Martial Arts would be a great thing. I have been training BJJ and MMA for a long time (8 yrs) and man, it really changed my life. If you find a good school (not a bully factory) it will be great for him. I wasn't a bad person but definitely had a little chip on my shoulder and wouldn't take [censored] from anyone. It lead to more fights than it should have. I still don't take [censored] from anyone, but what I truly consider "[censored]" is much different than it used to be. Martial Arts is truly about building people up, not beating people up. There isn't a whole lot I wouldn't walk or even run away from now. Even though I am very capable of handling myself, I know that 99.9% of [censored] can be avoided. If someone rubs me wrong (figuratively), I can walk away and be over it within minutes. Or, I can prove my "badassness" and live with it for much, much longer. Most [censored] just isn't worth it.

We had a kid that I helped teach getting bullied at school and it lead to a fight. The principal called my instructor to tell him about the fight. Turns out, my student took the bully down and simply held him in the mount until he started to cry. Not one punch thrown and that kid no longer gets bullied. Jiu Jitsu meand "Gentile Art" and can diffuse certain one on one situations without having to hurt the other person. You also have the skills to break limbs and choke people unconcious but that isn't alway needed.

I trian and spar a lot and get punched in the face sometimes. It isn't fun and I'd rather not have it happen on the street!

Okay, off my soap box. Martial Arts would be good for you kid! And I'm not saying what he did was wrong, either. Boys will be boys!
