I have twins, a boy and a girl. Actually now a man and a woman. They both turn 21 tomorrow and I have already been reading my son's post on Facebook about being able to go to the bars...worried to death..

Hey, offer to do the driving. He can get as wasted as he wants and your mind will be at ease. Also, you'll get to be part of what he will consider an important milestone in his life, at least until the day after when he realizes that it wasn't that big of a deal in the first place.

However it goes, I hope he makes it home safe. Please update us on this. I'll be thinking about it.

I've already warned him about grown men drinking in bars and probably 1/2 of them with guns...cops hiding out and waiting on you to leave and following you, etc etc...I have already offered to do the driving but he insist that he's not gonna be the driver. I said well then make damn sure the driver ain't been drinking either...Praying I don't get a phone call at 2 am or worse having the police knocking on my door in the middle of the night...I'm proud for them but boy, worried sick too.

Rent them a limo or party bus for the night so they dont have to be uncool and seen with dad, but no one gets stuck being designated driver

He is 21,it use to be 18,we've all been there

I try not to think of such things, I would have already pulled my hair out. I have 2 that have been in a flat out sprint with the devil, to see who is the baddest

me and my dad got hammered drunk on each of our birthdays together with friends, it turned into a tradition to rent a cab and go to a dance hall or something. although, i did once pass out in the front yard in the rain on his birthday, he wasn't too happy about that one... anyways, it was fun father/son time

Yes, we've all been there. But, when I turned 18 (June 1980), drinking and driving or drunken driving didn't have the same legal penalties as now, it was not much more than a slap on the wrist and a reasonable fine unless you happened to crash, hurt someone or something. It was still dangerous and bad things could happen but now it's a big money grab and can effect your ability to get a job. In fact, when I turned 18, it wasn't illegal to have an open container while driving. It was almost a given that you would grab a "cold one for the road" and many times we would have a "cowboy cold" six pack or 12 pack on the front seat. Hope your kids play it safe.

Also he was the driver. Come midnight he was tired and went home (and took the truck) didn't have a chance to drive

I wish he'd let me throw him a party at the house and he can invite all his friends that are 21 or over and I'd buy all the drinks, buy all the steaks and all the tough young guys can drink till they puke and then go in the house and crash.

Imo things people worry about or obssess about tend to happen. Whatever that may be. Stay positive and be cool just tell him shipowners much you love and please call anytime in the night if hes a least bit worried about his ride. They will be fine
