Mods, I'm sorry to do this, it could get heated (hence bunker material) and no, I don't agree with everything this gentleman says, BUT. Here's his full description explaining everything he's painted into the pic. And there's more out there. Wake Up America painting with explanation.

If a young person growing up these days blames the government for their failure to launch, then that says more about them than it does the USA. The US is still loaded with opportunity, the potential for education is broader than it has ever been, and success is there for the taking for the young people that want it. The problem is, the culture that has instilled the thought in their minds that I am entitled to a new car when I graduate, an new iPhone, a college education, a $100K job right out of college has been embraced by far too many young folks. It is harder than ever to make it these days, but it is far from futile. I don't disagree with your statements. However, that is not the point I was agreeing with from MadChad's point. I am speaking as to why they aren't voting and why they are apathetic to Govt. and the Presidency. Is either party offering up real concrete solutions? If you watch the Republican debates, it's about so and so is Rich. So and so wants Gay Marriage. So and so cheats on wives. Who is taking a lead in polls, how do they increase their lead in polls. I'm not blaming Republicans, Democrats do the exact same things. But........ It's about the Economy! Period, that is the single most important thing in this election. This Country is in serious trouble and all anyone wants to talk about is side issues and fluff. Does anyone really think for one second that Romney is gonna fix anything? That he is the man to turn this ship around? Seriously? I think that is where the Apathy comes from. Where is the hope? You also say that they feel entitled.....Why is that? Certainly it's not the Politicians that promise the world. The Politicians that cater to their wants and desires? Both Parties.

Certainly it's not the Politicians that promise the world. The Politicians that cater to their wants and desires? Both Parties. I agree, but if you are a young person waiting for the government to change so you can be successful, you have already lost the battle. The best, most satisfying success is to be a success when everything is stacked against you. Forget the government. Start a business, get a job and work 80 hours and move up, or learn a trade. Crying about the state of the government is just an excuse. The government is not going to significantly change anytime soon. Sitting around your mother's basement eating Cheetos, playing on your smartphone, and blogging with your friends is not going to cut it.

We are talking about two different things You are talking about apathy in youth in general. I am speaking to their apathy with getting involved in politics and voting. Similar, but different And again, I'm not disagreeing with your sentiments.

...friends with GOOD degrees, $50k+ in student loans and only about 20% of them make more than $10-11 an hour
That's what I had in mind. Some people can't see this aspect of it, because from way up there on that high horse it just looks like they don't wanna. i like the painting, i hate that it had to be painted Wish I could have said it that well.

There is an amazing amount of young lazy people under the age of 30. It's disgusting. but I have a ton of friends with GOOD degrees, $50k+ in student loans and only about 20% of them make more than $10-11 an hour
define good in this instance? I think we are on the same page, but it you're going to school and get a supposed good degree, and can't make more than essentially what unemployment pays, it wasn't a good degree. I blame a lot of this on school counselors, and the universities themselves. They want you to "live the dream" but don't bother to let you in the fact that you may be wasting your time in your degree plan.

....They want you to "live the dream" but don't bother to let you in the fact that you may be wasting your time in your degree plan. That and they want you under a pile of credit so you're screwed from the start. A few weeks ago my daughter came home talking about how college wasn't gonna be a big deal because she could take out loans and use credit cards and just pay it all off after she graduated. It turns out a couple of cheerleaders "from the schools" stopped by at the high school to promote using credit as a means to get an education. It took a few days to deprogram her and I'm still looking out for shows to record about how credit can destroy you. With any luck she'll pay as she goes and not ruin her life with debt.

Good degrees equal business management, accounting, economics, teaching, kinesiology (coaching/teaching) I have friends with all these degrees. Not one of them working in their field, nor making more than $11 an hour...
Don't get me wrong, I have plenty of friends who are bums and are to lazy to even look for a job. But there's many out there who aren't

Basically if you are a recent college hrad with no experience, you won't get a salaried job unless you know someone to get your foot in the door.
There are a select few who do, but that number is easily under 30%

If you go to the painters website you can scroll to each individual and it will explain that individual's feelings, etc. I've been there and it's really great.
