It is real work, planning, close to the highway byways, on the drop, in deep water (25 to 30 ft.)and time consuming. Investing in a good banding machine is a must and a good buddy with a pontoon boat, that can keep his mouth shut.
The key is to have a good mixture of brush. We use to make up a pile of willows, cane and cedar trees all banded together in a 6ft. tall bundle about 10ft. long. You can carry two of these easily on the deck and put two at each set. We would usually put out 3 new sets each year. This would be our deep water spots from noon to the end of the day.
We were successful in tournaments because we worked to have a topwater bite, first drop bite located and our brush piles for the deep bite. We always new the deep bite would be there so we concentrated on the other two bites while pre-fishing.
