Any one know if Rebecca Creek has enough water to launch a small boat. I'd imagine it's bone dry.

I am new to fishing Canyon Lake and was wondering where the closest usable ramp to the mouth of the Guadalupe is. Actually I fished Canyon about 40 years ago when Uncle Sam first turned me loose but am now clueless. Thanks

So is the Rebecca Ramp closed, or it's just out of the water?

Just wondering if you could still back a trailer past the ramp and into the water and launch?

Just a heads up if your thinking about going upriver in one of those striper boats.

I have a small 14' glass boat and a 15 hp Yamaha that I use for white bass fishing and up river when the lake is up, and right now I would be very uneasy about going up that river starting from Craines Mill point.

There are ancient cypress stumps that are just below the surface and just about everywhere from the middle of the channel to the bank and they've withstood some pretty horrific flood waters and are still standing or at least the lower part of the stumps are still standing.

If you dare to try it, you had better take it slow, and don't let what seems to be deep open water lure you into a false sense of security because that is when they'll get you.

Don't ask me how I know this!

I appreciate the info. I guess a yak is the only way to go around that area around all those stumps.

another question: What might be the closest parking area to the Guad to get at the white bass spawn? Is there enough water in the Guad for a spawn this year. it's dry all over, and most of my fishing holes are not there, or are considerably smaller. I've never fished above Canyon Lake in the river before. Just curious.

If you are going to use a kayak the closest access would be at the turn around/parking lot at the Craines Mill fishing pier and that is if they didn't lock the gate. Other than that the ramp at Mystic shores at the end of N.Craines Mill rd.

If the ramp is closed you can still park in the lot and carry/wheel a kayak down to the water.

Also you could do the same at #11 up river on Cypress Creek, but then it's a long muddy walk down to the river and that is if there is any flow there at all.

There has been reports in the past of folks catching whites in the back of the main lake creeks such as Jacobs creek and I'm sure the others are probably the same.

Just because the river isn't running at full level they will still find areas to spawn so try those creeks if your familiar with the lake.

I guess the lake needs to come up at least 3 or 4 feet. lastt I checked it was at 899.

Rebecca creek launch #11 will not open until it goes past 901.60, and that is if the county feels like taking the barackade down when it does.

We just might salvage the spawn yet!

I ran up there a ways yesterday. Lots of bait around Cordoba bend. I've seen a few caught there lately, but they were small (don't fish for them myself.) It gets a bit tricky as you near the cut to the Rebecca Creek Ramp. It shallows out to maybe 4 ft., and you have to navigate through some tree trunks that have floated down and wedged in the channel. Once you get through there, the channel deepens again, 25-30 ft. in some places, and it's easier to tell where it runs. There was some water, as far as I could see from the main channel, up towards the ramp. Looked pretty shallow to me. Up from there, I passed a couple of yakkers, and I suspect they put in at the Rebecca Creek Ramp. It was easy going for a couple of miles or so, until I came to a place where a huge stump, maybe 25 ft. long, had lodged in the channel. At this point, the channel was maybe 6 ft. deep. I made my way through there and thought I was doing pretty good, until I hit a gravel bar right where I thought the channel was. This knocked the ginger off the exercise for me, and I decided to go no further. Been a while since I've been up there, and I'm not sure how close to the first set of rapids I got. (My GPS chart ended at the end of Demijohn Bend.) If you're of a mind to check the Rebecca Creek Ramp from the land side, bear in mind that the Rebecca Creek Road crossing is closed. Saw only one boat past Demijohn Bend, and he wasn't fishing.

When the lake is full or near full, the first set of rapids is just past the "BIG HOUSE" on the right, you can't miss it, and you'll know it when you see it.

There is another shallow area heading upriver from RC and that is where the river gets it's widest and there is a cleared somewhat flat on the left and large rocks on the shore.

That area is probably the rapids right now at the present low level, and it's about halfway up to the original first rapids at the house, since with a full lake it is only about 3 1/2 to 4 ft. deep, and it varies with every time the river floods.

beyond that point the river narrows and is deeper and that is where those enormous boulders and one that is the size of a city bus reside balanced along the bank, and then up from there is the "big house" and the first rapids.

I've been fishing up at those rapids for many years, and my memeory isn't as good as it once was, but I'm thinking the lake has to be at least at 906 elevation to be able to make it up to the historic first rapids.

Should have mentioned that there's a lot of debris up there until you get past Demijohn Bend. Had to tilt my prop out of the water a couple of times to get disentangled. Also forgot to mention that a couple of boats overtook me on the return downstream, so they may have made it to the rapids.

Surface temp was 58 at the ramp at noon, and got up to 63 in the late afternoon, upriver.

It's still a little early but should be going strong in a couple weeks all the way up to and past "spring break" and I have another way of telling when it's prime time.

Watch your peach trees, and when you see the first pink blooms you had better be fishing!

These were caught at the rapids a while back but it shows the peach tree (spawn predictor) in the backround.
