I just wanted to take a moment to share our great fishing day. So, a buddy and I went to Monticello today to nab whatever bass we could round up. Knowing that bad weather makes for good fishing there, we were excited. We had the weather combo today including cloudy, light breeze, then partly sunny and warming up, then drizzle, cold high winds, etc. Anyway, we got to the ramp early to find that we were the only ones there. Actually, we ended up being the only boat at the lake for the entire day. We had Monti all to ourselves. At the end of the day we had caught 12 bass ranging from 2 lbs up to 7 lbs. What a great day! Here are a few pics.

We sat at the outflow and caught a bunch of small fish on c-rigs. IT was actually a pretty good time.

Interesting. What do they consider the "line"? Common sense would say that the white bouy and the first fence post is the "line". There is no marker on the shore that shows where the "line" is. Where you inside of that? What kind of ticket was it and how much?

I was there a couple of weeks ago when the game warden rolled up and handed out a couple of warnings at the discharge for that very reason. He explained that the boundary runs in a line from the last buoy to the point.

The point? That is rediculous. I think if they are going to hand out warnings or tickets, then they need to officially mark the area. An imaginary "line" can be interpreted in a million different ways.

I wish we got a warning ticket. Yes, apparently from the last buoy to the bank is the restricted area. We got a ticket...not a warning for fishing between the last buoy and the bank. We havent gotten the final amount of how much it will be...mostly because my parter is lazy, but it will not be cheap. I thought the area was open on either end, but its not, so be careful out there fellas.

Oh, the warden said it is illegal to tie up to the buoys also. ridiculous, i know, but just want everyone to be aware of the possibility.

Yup, knew that already. Just surprised that they can give a ticket based on a non-marked, imaginary line. Crazy!

those pics show what happens when people tie up to them (hence the reason it is against the law) the first pic shows where they are supposed to be. The second pic shows what happens when people tie up to them. They get moved and or broken off because they are not designed to hold the weight of a boat. Common sense would also dictate that the line would extend from the edge buoy to the bank in the arc that the buoys make. If the buoys are moved like the second pic then common sense should dictate that the line would extend from the outer most buoys straight to the bank.

According to Ranger Mike, the warden says the line is from the last buoy to the point (the purple line). That makes no sense. Common sense would say the black line is the actual line. From the last buoy (which is now a white one where the red spot is) to the first fence post. The red circle is where a lot of people fish. Looks like it is outside of the line to me. I'm not saying that the warden is wrong, he should know where the imaginary line is, I'm just saying that if they are going to write tickets then there needs to be something there to signify where the line is so that people will know where they are allowed to fish. Plus, if the line really did go all the way to the point, then why are there no buoys past the first fence post. Even the first picture above shows that there were no buoys past the first fence post.

common sense would dictate that your black line would look equal on both sides instead of dipping way in on the right side. The original buoys are shown to do that in Tracker Tim's first pic. your black line should hit the bank not quite halfway to the purple line. It would make absolutely no sense to think that the buoys on the left are there to keep you a good distance away from the discharge waterfall, but it's ok to sit at the fence post on the right side right where the water is coming out. just my logic though. It's hard for them to keep the buoys exactly where they are supposed to be when folks are tied to them and dragging them out of position.

Fair enough. But, all the way to the point is quite excessive.

I like to tie up my trot lines to the bouy markers around the discharge.

Put chicken livers on half to catch catfish, and some blue gills to go for the big one....

Do you I need to tag my trotline and how long can I leave it there?

We just had our club tourney there yesterday after the cold front. We had 24 fishermen and only 10 legal bass were weighed in. I know we had at least 4 members caught a 7# or better. I caught one 22 1/2" full of eggs. Warmest water that I saw was 62.. Did not fish the discharge..

Rock crawler my apologies, you are absolutely correct. I spoke without the added benefit of having a map in front of me. The boundary limit would be a continuous line from the last buoy to the bank in line with the other buoys...not to the point as I had previously stated. Sorry for the confusion
