I've been riding around Cooper by land this week and have seen a lot of this with out a boat. Some of the boat ramps, which just became funtional this week are covered with this stuff.......

yup... the old stumps/trees dried out finally and became brittle..a little hydraulic force and SNAP!! now they are floaters... I expect to see lots of boats torn up from people not realizing that little nugget of wisdom...

Thanks for the reminder, it is something that we may forget and it comes up out of nowhere.

I slammed into a floater on Fork many years ago, kicked the motor up and sent a helluva shock wave through the whole frame of the boat!

There were spider cracks and stress fractures I later discovered throuout the floor and around all of the rear compartment hatches!

$5,000.00 later everything was, on the surface, back to normal. bang

My buddy and I were at Grapevine about a month ago and saw what we thought from afar was an overturned canoe or something. Went over and it was a big log just bobbing and waiting for someone to hit it. We towed it in and dumped it on the beach, far enough up that it shouldn't have gotten washed out again.

Those lonely floaters are more dangerous than the big groups. Everyone be carefull and catch a bunch.

The toughest "widow makers" to spot are the semi-floating logs that are just underneath the water surface. your lower unit discovers them unless the hull makes contact 1st and pushes them deeper in the water. In the Ohio river you just hope it Was a log and not a ATF agent that got too close to a working moonshiners still.
