Any of you have any experience fishing the flats of Isla Blanca north of cancun? Will be in cancun around spring break and am trying to decide between a couple of days fishing isla blanca or one day in ascension bay (IB is close enough that i can get the wifey to sign off on 2 days, AB is a bitch of a drive and she's only 'allowing' 1 day, ha... either way, I'll be hitting the surf on the beach every morning and evening).

Heard Isla Blanca could be hit or miss depending on commercial fishing activity but was curious if any of you had fished there recently.

Ya, it's really good, but it depends what you want to fish for. There are definitely more permit down in ascension bay (I caught the super slam there a few weeks ago), but the baby tarpon are better up north especially in hobax which is a little farther northwest from isla blanca. I fished Isla Blanca a few years back. We caught baby tarpon, barracuda and snook. We fished out of a small panga. It was a decent trip though the guide had very mediocre gear.
