I've never given that any thought, but I think you're right. Most of my fish are caught on the left side. And curious enough, roughly half are hooked through the bottom jaw.

Can't help but wonder if it related to all toilets flushing in a clockwise rotation.

By the same figuring do reverse offsets hook them in lower jaw while regular offsets catch upper? Or is it the opposite on left handed fish?

maybe it depends on which arm you set the hook with. i dont think they all swim the same direction.

not sure if it has anything to do with the fish - i think it's more how the hook is set - when you set the hook - are you pulling up and to the right or up and to the left?

When I was in Lugansk, Ukraine back in 2004 for a few weeks, the apartment I rented had a unique toilet (& it was not that "special" kind either that Mick (Crocodile) Dundee asked about either. When you flushed, it blasted. Cutting thru the chase, it was safer for you to stand before flushing it.
As to catfish & patterns, I'll be the first to say that all fish, just like people run patterns, even if they (or you) are not aware of it. Learn to observe & take notes & I'm sure you will discover even more.

Can't help but wonder if it related to all toilets flushing in a clockwise rotation. They flush in the opposite direction in the southern hemisphere. That would make all the South American fish lefties.

Thought I'd throw this out and see what kind of response I get. Over the years I've noticed that when unhooking catfish caught on circle hooks it's almost the same routine each time. I grab the fish and remove the hook stuck in the left corner of the mouth. Every now and then the fish is hooked on its right side. I started keeping mental note and about 9 out of 10 fish caught are hooked on the left side. The fish takes the bait and turns to the right, thus hooking in the left corner of its mouth. Meaning a majority of catfish are "right handed". Curious to know if other people are experiencing the same thing. Something to think about the next time you're on the water. That you would notice this is why you are a guide and I'm just a fisherman. I'm sure there is some merit to your observation but I'm not sure if it can be helpful to catching fish. The fact is like someone else has stated: "Thanks Bobby....I'll probably never catch another fish without thinking about it!"

The toilet thing depends on the way the little jets are pointed that make water go from the tank to the bowl.
