I've kept reciepts twice now - for a year each and never went through with it. From what I remembered, it was a PITA to get done! Maybe I'm wrong!

What you are filing for is a refund from the State of Texas for road use taxes that you have paid on gasoline that was not consumed on a public highway.

Not only is it a write off but you can claim TBG as a dependent.

As far as I know any fuel that is not used on roadways.

Farm equip qualifies..I don't know how they are with smaller amounts but they hassle me every year. Of course I filing for a refund on $15000 worth of gas.

You can file once every 12 months.

The first year you claim this, you need to send in supporting documentation i.e. your gas receipts, clearly marked "BOAT FUEL" (yes, you handwrite this on the receipt yourself). In subsequent years, you don't have to send receipts in with your claim, but you are expected to keep your receipts in case the state wants to see them.

If you burn 10 gallons a month, it probably isn't worth doing, but if you go through 30 gallons or more each month it might be worthwhile.
