I'm looking at an '04 boat with a 150 2 stroke Mercury Saltwater Motor on it. It appears to be in good condition. Owner says it's got 100'ish hours on it. My question is what it's like to "live" with a carburated motor like that. I currently have a 4 stroke Yamaha with fuel injection. Starting is never an issue. Runs very smooth. Should I expect the same from the Mercury motor providing it's in good condition with clean carburators, etc. I just don't want to be sitting at the launch grinding on the starter on cold mornings. Thoughts?

shouldn't be a problem in my opinion.

just keep the plugs clean, and run seafoam or merc. cleaner.

pump the bulb before trying to start and it should fire right off.
let it warm up for a few before taking off.. which everyone should be doing with any marine engine!!!!!!!!!!

Have lived with my carbed XR6 150 since it was new in 1997. No problems starting as a matter of fact it has never failed to start. Turn key on push in count to ten with key still pushed in turn to start until it starts. Make sure motor is trimmed level or all the way in before you start. I have had no problems even when temps are below freezing and have frost on the cowl. Love my carbs they don't need a computer to operate less things to break. Fuel injection has one advantage if you travel it automatically adjusts to altitude where carbs have to be re jetted to run properly.
