I'm a rookie when it comes to Sacalait, but what will this rain do to the bite out on Fork. It has been my experience that alot of rain like this will cool water temps and raise the lake level,, and that will usually have the bass on lockdown for a day or so. Will the crappie react in similar ways, or since they are deep this time of year, will their feeding be unaffected?

I don't know enough to talk short term, but longer term it will be magic. This will give Crappie and Sandbass good water to spawn in, whether it be on points that are now dry, or in the creeks that will have water and current they do not have now.

And it will bring water up and flood grass, weeds and brush providing good natural cover for all sport fish.

HAPPY DAYS ARE HERE AGAIN banana grin bannana2

+1 on good cover to spawn in

Regarding the bite, I know in the creeks around here, at least for me, are pretty much hopeless until the current drops to almost 0. I've tried fishing in eddies, etc, but it never seems to work (curious if anyone else can catch creek crappies in a current). I'm guessing that the lake bite is less effected but if the water looks muddy I bet the bite will be off.

Right now the fish are still on a deeper bite. I think you won't find a huge change in the current deep bite. thumb

IMHO, this is a cold rain and will keep the water temp low for a few more weeks. Until it reaches about 56-57, I'm hoping there won't be much movement of the deep water fish. It seems to me we should have a good spawn this year if the water comes up at least 2 more feet and inundates whatever vegetation had grown up on the open ground. Regardless, when they start moving again toward spawning grounds, they should stage out on long points and flats and stay close to the shad balls. It's just so good to see the rain.

It has muddied up the main creeks and smaller feeder creeks, the more North the muddier the water will be.However the deeper water near the Dam should stay much clearer, and we should still have a good deep bite. And with the low lake levels the flood gates at the Dam should stay closed, not causing a strong current on the main lake at this time.

huh That is probably the best grammar/word choice I have ever seen on a TFF post. First time I've had to whip out the dictionary in order to understand a TFF post. Very nice.

Black & Chartreuse or White & Chartreuse will probably be the best colors in muddy water....it the water is warm enough for the crappie to bite.

Probably will be a few days before the bite is very good. The rain is Great but (for me) Crappie are allot harder to catch than bass after a rain.

cant speak to what rising water does to crappie, but the white and black bass will be 'turned on' along the grass beds as rising water covers the weeds that sprouted on the long exposed banks
