Fished 4.5 hrs and caught 2, one about 4 in 20' on a rock ledge and one in 2' off a patch of grass. If you can find a pattern in that, choke is your lake.

Honestly, if you live in SA, you are prob better off fishing medina or one of the river lakes, or biting the bullet and heading to falcon, rather than fishing choke. At least for about another month. For sine reason the fish in that lake go into lockdown every winter. Don't know what it is, but you can go back and look at almost any Jan or feb tourney results from the past few years and see that's the case.

Wow we have been doing really good at choke. Find the grass and you will find the fish. KVD 2.5 and also watmelon red Lizards c-rig. I have been catching them mainly off secondary points. Look for rock u will find them. Prob caugt 10 fish last time out., biggest in boat 7lbs smallest 2lbs. broke 1 off in 2ft of water. man that stinks.

I went out to run my boat on Sunday. In the morning the water was around 59 degrees. I was marking fish deep but couldn't get any bites. Fish I saw were scattered and suspended. The sun came out in the afternoon and the water temps rose into the mid 60s. I started throwing a watermelon candy ole monster around stickups on gravely banks and I started nailing 1 to 3 pound bucks. It was a lot of fun.

In all fairness it prob didn't help that I fished post front in 25 mph winds. If I had to do it again, would launch at south shore and look for grass. Not much around calliham and west. Nor possum.

I think I have a better chance of catching syphillus by myself out there than catching a good bag.

That lake is evil lol

Chris, I know you hate that lake, but you can have some really good days out there. I've had more than one 30 lb+ days out there and I'm just your average weekend fisherman. One thing about it though, when that lake is off, it is off.

Choke is a great lake to fish when the water is 63 degrees or warmer and its much better to fish during the week than on the weekend, because IMO it fishes very small with just a little bit of pressure. The grass holds lots of fish once its in full bloom, but the fish there for some reason really dont like the cooler water temps, I have just about quit fishing it during the winter months.
