So, last year before I upgraded my electronics I made two trips to Falcon. The lake was overpool about 1' but it was beautiful.I pitched at a lot of flooded brush but really did poorly. This time with GPS I'd fish the Mexican side. Probably put in at the county ramp and cross straight across to the Mexican side and start fishing shallow structure and work south.

A guide would be nice but it's out of my budget.

The only difference between Falcon and Amistad trip for me is two tanks of gas.

I feel ya man. We did what would be great on any other lake but well under par when I went and it was my first trip. Makes it hard to go back but I know there is some good fish in there. I would say go for it. Need to lick that lake while it's still good!

I'm going to attempt Falcon in early March. Never been there so I'm interested in responses as well.

You can't just go there and pitch at flooded brush and whack em. Fish it like you would any other lake. Seasonal patterns -> structure -> cover on structure.

John, you shouldn't have told me about that spot on HC, it's now my favorite and I expect it's a good spawning flat.

And I did fish shallow structure with brush and rocks...there's was just a lot of that last year and low as it is I expect it to fish better this spring.

I don't mind sharing my spots, glad you did well there, but it looks a lot different now. Man the lake is low, hopefully this rain will put a little back into it.

Made my first ever trip Jan8-11. Middle 2 days caught only 7 bass, the first and last day caught over 15 each day including my PB 7-12 and my buddies PB 8-3. Lost several that would have been our PB. I will be going back and so should you. We caught most of our fish on 10" Zoom red shad worms TX rigged as that was what we were most comfortable with. I have never caught anything on a jig, but next trip I am going to give it more effort. To me the fish on that lake seem to like company, when we caught one we caught several in the same area. Once you find a sweet spot its game on!

I sure like the lake and plan on a lot of trips there through June.I sure agree about the need for rain.

Different lake now than when you went. Completely different.

The lake is hot right now. Fish are shallow and ready to spawn. Fishing has been great on Texas side.

Fishing on Falcon can be good some days and not so good on other days. No question about it, a lot of people catch some great strings of fish and get a lot of big ones. It does not happen every day for everyone. Sometimes people get/give the impression that if you are not culling 6 pounders then you are having a bad day. Wish that was the case every trip. If it was, I would have James build another room onto the Tackle Shop.

Give it another shot. There is always a good chance of tying into a big one or a bunch of big ones.

I had to go get a Navionics chip when I was down there just to feel safe running the lake and to help me locate ledges.

That's me. Now I have a year's experieence with GPS and I wouldn't worry about crossing the lake. I get completely 'turned around' on Amistad and just couldn't go out w/o GPS. I think Falcon is long and narrow compared to Amistad.

If I have learned one thing from a few trips to Falcon is that it is the hardest "easy" lake out there. People go down there expecting to not have to fish hard and put in the time. Falcon is different in that if you really work hard down there you can be rewarded in a big way. I was on a trip earlier this year where we didnt catch all that many fish but we murdered the big ones. Never had a day under 30 pounds and our biggest bass was 13.37.
