I don't have a boat and for the last few years I have been going to the creeks around garland and rowlette to catch white bass in the spawn. I sure want to catch some crappie in the same areas but I don't know when is the best time to start fishing. I would appreciate any helpful advice.

Once the water clears back up there should be some of both species in that creek.

I know Rowlette Creek pretty well. I get afraid that I might get my truck towed in some of the places because there are no parking signs posted.

Not familiar with your area, but if its like most creeks, there will be some crappie there now. When the run off from the rains slow down and the water starts warming back up. Work the brush along the banks. Most of he crappie will be in the brush not the open water. Use a jig under a slip bobber, or minnows if you can get them. This year might be different, but look for the spawn sometime in March or April. Hope this helps... And welcome to TFF!

The next few days the lower creeks and lakes will be off color or muddy, but the waer in the upper creek may still be clear.

If you can find the point where this clear water and the off color water mix, you can probably catch Crappie and Sandies right there.

I used to do that on Lake Texoma when it was on a big rise.

I'm not bragging because I have a boat becasue I have more fun fishing from the docks and it's a lot less trouble than taking the boat out for crappie fishing. I also have caught more fish in the boat docks than I ever caught out on the boat in the lake. Bank fishing has a lot of advantages sometimes. Good luck catchinmg them crappie!!
