You can walk the trail at the mill dam. Or launch under 35 and paddle up river. I like launching on common st bridge and float to the 35 bridge.

I have paddled that stretch of river several times and it is a very nice paddle for sure. During the Summer, Dunlap gets packed with ski boats and the guad gets over ran with tubers. There is a nice stretch of river that runs from Cypress Bend Park down to the spillway at the beginning of Lake Dunlap. Since the last take out for the tubers is Cypress Bend Park and no "big" boats can get above the spillway, this is the only stretch of river that is still fishable during the Summers. I have been out there in the peak of Summer activity and had that whole section of river to myself. And the Comal dumps into the Guad between Cypress bend and Dunlap, so in essence you can fish both on the same trip.

You mainly have two choices. If you have a buddy with a truck (like me!) you would drop one truck off at the 35 boat ramp and take the yaks up to Cypress. Launch there and it's a nice paddle downstream until you end up back at the 35 launch for Dunlap. Or if your alone (as most of my trips) you launch at the 35 ramp and paddle upstream. It's not far and you will hit the spillway. Just carry your yak up a trail that goes around the spillway. From there paddle upstream and you will hit were the Comal dumps into the Guad. Let me know when you are ready and we will plan a trip!

I have never done it, but you can't you launch on the comal right before the confluence w/ the Guad. That is where all the tubers take out.

I usually launch at the public park a mile upriver from the junction, but that mile is shallow, and not that good for fishing. The section that you mention is much better.
