Im going this afternoon to get my drivers licensed renewed.I talked to someone yesterday that said it took 3 hours. Any ideas of what to bring to make the time go fast.
I plan on starting an additional rant while there with pics that discuss unemployment. Something along the lines of "the gov't should hire more employees here so it doesnt take so long. There are people getting free checks while watching TV on there 60 inch plasma while Im taking time off work to stand in a line for 3 hours..... etc"
Any thoughts or prayers are welcome.

I was told that the Lewsiville office is better then the denton one. I will prob just go to the denton one now that you say that. Ive heard the opposite...my wife took my step daughter to the Denton office to get her driving test...took about 45 minutes, where as she wasnt guaranteed to have her test done within their work hours at the Lewisville location.

I live in Collin county but drove to Lewisville to renew because it was much faster than the one in Mckinney, in Lewisville I waited about an hour and in Mckinney it was 3-6 hours in line, my nephew went the same day as I did but used the Mckinney office, he did it three times in one week and waited that long each time.

The one in San Marcos gets you in and out in less than 20 min.

I did this last Friday at the LV DPS office and yes it is a beating. I am now of the thinking is you may as well show up about 4:45 because they will take anyone there before 5:00 and possibly that would be the incentive for those incredibly slow workers to get busy so they can go home.
That has to be the slowest most inefficient run office I have ever seen. I was there for nearly 2 hours for something that takes about 3 minutes.
Just a tip...check and see if you can do yours online. You can't every time but sometimes you can. I have done mine before online but this time it said online was not an option. ^^^^^This^^^^^ I have renewed my own license and my husband's online. Super easy and they send you the new one in the mail.

Try finding an office that doesn't do driving tests. Scags, in the Sherman office, people who do the driving test are seperate from the ones taking pictures for license renewal. There are two or three people that do nothing but new or license renewals. There are two individuals who do nothing but driving tests. Those who need to do their driving test have already gone through the line to get their vision checked and have their picture taken for the license. Once the pass the driving test, they are issued the temp license and sent on their way by the person to administered the driving test.

I had to go to the Lewisville location last week, and when I got there the line was out the door and down the side walk about 50 feet. Good thing I was going to do registration and not DL.

You're thinking about registration, taxes on sale or purchase of a motor vehicle, etc. In that case you have to go to the county tax-assessor/collector in your county.

Try finding an office that doesn't do driving tests. Good advice...Rudy C told me he went to the one downtown after seeing the line in LV and was in and out in about 5 minutes because that office only does renewals. I considered it but stuck it out at the LV office.

Well I just called both my options.
Decater is a 45 minutes wait but 30 minutes away.
Denton says 1.5 hour wait.
Ill prob just go to denton one.

The first part of last week, my bride spent a little over 3 hours in line at the LV office to get a renewal. She got done about 1 in the afternoon, and said there was hardly a line after lunch. Hope this helps.

I always scan my drivers license when I get a new one. That way if I lose it, I can get a new one online. Every so many years you cannot renew online...you have to go in person.

I just got through renewing my DL on line at texasonline.com a few minutes ago. Answer a few questions, put $25 on your credit card, print out the temp receipt and you good to go. No fuss, no bother, no standing in line.

Yep, I think it's every other renewal (by expiration) you have to appear in person. I had to do it this past summer. It sucked.
