Also have a 150. It loves gas. Great running motor though.

Good Motor have the 150 carbed XR6 and any motor 150 and up is a gas hog. Ask yourself this what is the difference between 3 miles per gal wot and 6 mpg wot not much. everyone of them are gas hogs.

I had a 1994 Merc. 200 EFI. It was a great motor but as everyone else has stated, it drinks gas. My 2005 225 Pro XS is much easier on gas.

Had a 98 and was a good engine. Lost a cylinder when got water in fuel filter. Should have changed out filter. But I thought the beeper would go off, but the sensor was covered with rust. Rebuilt and the new filter was different with the sensor probe extending about 1/2 inch off the bottom of the filter. The old one was recessed and I think Mercury knew they had a problem. Motor still runs good 4 years after rebuild.

My dad has a 98 225 and he's been trying to blow it up so he can mount a yahama on it. May drink some fuel but the motor just flat will not give up
