I was told just to rig it like you would a jig and work it through structure. I've only used it a few times myself but have caught a few fish on it.

hop, drag, etc...
Its going to be different, but most of the time I drag it very slowly until it hits anything that causes it to stop (can be something as small as a little rock the size of a quarter), then I lightly shake it there and eventually it will break loose. I reapeat that with every small thing I can feel on the bottom.
If its a smooth bottom like mud or sand, I just try my best to shake it in place, which it will be moving toward you really slow...if that doesnt work then I drag it towards me a little quicker pace.
Basically it varies. When I want to for sure get bites or fish in the boat, I go to a shaky head or a drop shot...I catch alot of 14" fish, but it can save a skunk if you are having a rough day.

I throw a shakey head worm on a 1/8 oz. jig head (I like Strike King jig heads and Zoom shakey tail worms). I use 12 lb. mono on spinning gear. My retrieve is normally short hops and occasional shakes. Watch for line movement - that's sometimes the only way you know a fish is on. When you hang up, it's normally just wedged under something and you can gently shake it loose.

Your really not getting the advise I think your were looking for.
Use a hook size that your comfortable with(heavier for deeper or folage) Berkley worms work great and Grande Bass have rattlsnakes that are a perfect fit for this use. The way i have caught fish is presenting it slower than a texas rig. I usually will work it at that pace until you hit structure than as one of the previous posts suggests stop and wiggle or "shake" the bait. The bit will vary from a fish just picking it up and swimming with it and you will have to pay close attention to that aspect of the bit. You will also get the tug and pull or even a light tap-tap. You can alway just tighten the line and feel for the fish, which 50% of the time is how i have caught them. it works really great on break lines and bumping into sub-mergent structures.
Good Luck

Last year I caught probably between 150-200 bass on Palestine on Spot remover shakey heads with Berkley power worms.Biggest came in August 7-14. Caught one 5.5# 3 times in one week. The third time I had been throwing Yellow Magics, spinnerbaits, square bill, nothing, tossed shakey head around same stump...BINGO!! Most of these fish came in 2-6' stained water. Can't wait.......

Just my thinking, but a shakey can cover the gamut. Heads, hooks, baits. It's endless. I try and match line size with water depth to head weight with ample hook size for the bait. Can't go wrong with a spot remover, if your bait is a worm type. I really like the Owner heads the best, but that's just me. I have some football shakeys with a 4/0 wide gap that I really like with a thicker craw bait. I do want the bait to float. I use Hags, Excite, and V&M plastics for this reason. I think starting out, you should be sure and use enough weight in the jig head to maintain the feel of the bottom. As you get better you may go lighter, but you need to know what that jig feels like on the bottom. Hope this helps some. Jim
