Can/would any one share some insite on fishing Crappie on RC? I & son plan to go next month (Feb)for the 1st time on the lake. I've never fished it before, have heard they're there but most all I read only talks about the Whites.

Hey there - The lake does have crappie, but the lake doesn't have a lot of organized structure. It has plenty (as on way too many) visible stumps and dangerous submerged stumps. There are of course bridge pilings and docks to fish under, and slopes. However we do not have brush piles to catch from.

We were over 8' low and are now at 4.5' low and gently rising. Like fishing any new lake, fish move around and you have to start with the standard visible features and such.

White bass are often the most talked about because the lake has soooo many, but we have crappie too. You and your son will just have to come out and fish for them. If you put in at Oak Cove Marina, there is the 287 bridge to the right and the stumps to the left to start with.

Good luck and good fishing!

RC is one of the toughest Winter Lakes for Crappie we've ever fished. We've been fishing it since 1994 and have given up on Winter Crappie. We do good normally from the Spawn (Mid March thru early May) all the way thru October. If the mild Winter continues we may have some early spawners, but you're best bet year in and year out for Crappie on the beds is April. Work the shallow Coves, Boathouses, and Stickups in 2' -4' water.

Right now you're missing out on some of the best times for BIG Whites and Hybrids you'll experience all year! smile

Good Luck!
