Does anyone have any suggestions for somewhere to fish in the Santa Rosa area? I'm bringing my 3wt so i was hoping to find some small streams to fish. I don't know [censored] about stealheading so I'll leave that for when I have more time.

Jukebox,
Go over the UL site and ask there, you will find some ultra lighters who might find the time to take you out. When I went to southern ca on business I met a couple down there.

Russian River is right there, and I'm not sure about 3wt size streams. I used to haunt the streams about 2 hours north of there, and never got to the Russian. Good luck!

Putah Creek is a tailwater fishery running out of Lake Berryessa, near Davis. It can be excellent fishing when conditions are right. Very technical at times with some large trout in small water....contact Kiene's Fly Shop in Sacramento for info. Also potential for some Shad fishing in area rivers. They are a lot of fun...run 2 to 4 pounds, take a fly readily and fight like crazy. The shad run is a similar phenomenon to the local sand bass run. Kiene's is a good source of info. Check out his website....

The message board is a good source also....
