I guess it depends if you want to stay in bed, have room service, and surf the net all day- or FISH lol.

True, Beacon is older and more of fish camp style, but that to me is 1/2 the fun. What you get at Beacon is lots of good anglers and people willing to help out. Some of the "resident guest" are the best at helping you catch big fish and plentiful numbers. You can pull your boat up to the bank and walk back to your room, cabin or mobil home if you need to get a nap, lunch, etc and not worry about theft. Speedy is the best guide on the lake for help, and he employees some great people at his lodge. Jennifer runs the office which is being remodeled now to include a food & supplies store, and is extremely friendly and helpful. The outdoor kitchen is where anyone can grill steaks, drink a little beer and tell lies all night. If you don't want to cook yourself, then we always throw Joe (this dude is awesome) a little money and he cooks supper out there for us. He makes killer fajitas and a pot of beans that will make you slap your momma!
As other have said, the boat ramp is in your back yard; some people even use their ATVs to launch the whole time.
Although there may be newer or "fancier" places to stay, Beacon Lodge is where all the Fun-n-Sun boys stay because of the comraderee of the trip. Heck I love the place so much, me and buddy bought a house next door.
Good luck wherever you choose because in the end, it's all about having a good time.

I liked beacon ok for what we were doing which was fishing daylight to dark. If the wife was going it probably wouldn't work. It's basically a fish camp. I wouldn't leave my bags laying open there though. You might take an unwanted guest home. Our room had roaches the size of Zara spooks.
