I would like to try to make it. I usually launch from twin coves or murrell park but lately I have been wanting to try somewhere different. Any points with rocks on them were producing a couple of weeks ago. I'll PM next week if I can be there.

2-4 will be the first time I'll get a chance to fish this year so I'm certainly in. I'll likely be in the water earlier, around 7:30am.
I'm planning to launch from Murrell Park.

I was looking at Murrell park and Twin coves, both are fine, looks like Murrell park would be easier to get to.
Ricardo, is there any fish at Murrell, was also looking at something closer to the dam?

Palovik, katies woods is the closest public ramp to the dam I believe.

Let's go with Murrell Park, looks kayak friendly and enough room. Looking forward to meeting everyone, this time if you have two way radio's please try and bring them. Will have a picture taker with us and should be able to paddle over for a great picture of fish and yourself. Here is the link to the location http://www.lake-grapevine.com/murrell-park/

Ricardo, is there any fish at Murrell, was also looking at something closer to the dam? There are usually sandbass just off Murrell Park. Might be deep this time of the year so I plan to try some dropshooting. Black bass around the edges too.

In talking to one of my buddies that lives on the lake, suggest we go all the way back to Marina to launch. More protected and is a good are to fish. No charge to launch.
The main boat ramp up front is not very protected. Some of the best places for LMB is the bluffs and Island, did notice that the area has some really deep water..
But this will be my first time for this lake, sounds challenging, I like it.

Palovik, you must be talking silver lake park. Some of my friends suggested that part of lake as well. It's good for lmb . We should try it.

Not sure how/if this relates as I have never been to Murrell Park, but went out late yesterday to Marshall Creek Park to get the new yak wet and that area is still way up and the water very murky/muddy.
The wife went with me and we were not able to get there as early as I had hoped so didn't have a chance to wet a line, but talked to some guys who were loading up their boat while we were taking out and sounded like they had been pretty much skunked. From the looks of things, I am assuming they were fishing for crappie or sandies.
Was hoping to be able to get over there Saturday and meet some of you and catch some fish, but tentative plans are for the family to take in the last weekend of the Stock Show. Hope to catch the next one.
Ya'll have fun!

Ricardo, was thinking of launching all the way back at marina, just to save some paddleling time. Here is the exact location, no ramp, but parking and can take the kayak down to the water. Puts us right in the rock ledges for LMB. But this is totally up to the group, was just trying to make it easier and quicker to get on the fishing area. http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ll...p;t=h&z=18

That looks like a good spot to me Mark. Easy put in and take out it looks like, and should not be too crowded of an area.

I've launched from that exact spot several times. Specially when the wind is coming from the north. It's a little steep going down from the parking lot but it's doable. You can also launch from the parking lot right across the marina.
Not sure about how friendly the marina guys with people parking there. I just try to be discrete and park away from their plank to the marina.

Steve seen your comment on Jig fishing give me some specific's and will build you a Jig to match your pole.
Line Weight, rod lenth, action (MH etc.)and spin or bait caster,
This area is supposed to have some great ledges excellant for Jig fishing.

The two poles i use the most are both 6'6", one is medium the other is medium heavy. Both are spinning, I have a baitcast, but just bought it recently so i am not comfortable with it yet. Line weight on the 6'6" medium heavy right now is 50lb power pro braid. However, I also have an extra spool for the same real that has 12lb mono on it. Line weight on the 6'6" medium right now is 8lb mono, but I also have an extra spool for that reel that has 15lb braid on it. I have some jigs, a variety of them, and some trailers for them as well. Just don't know what I am doing with any of it. LOL If you tell me what I need, I can make sure I bring it. I would love to learn more about using jigs. I have several other poles as well and plenty of line if I need to run something different. Just point me in the right direction. Thanks Mark, Steve

I like the set up you have, “and this is just my opinion”, but would use the 15lb braid with about a 10 - 12 lb floro leader with a double uni knot for the lines. Leader should be twice the length of the pole. Great this time of year as the fish are a little slower.
Medium heavy rod would be best, but the medium will work, just have to take up the line a little more quickly to set hook.
But use what ever rod you feel has the best sensitivity. Best way to tell this, get a helper and place the end of the rod on a person’s Adam apple and have them talk.
If you go with the lighter setup mentioned above I will bring a ¼ once jig, great action this time of year. But if you go with the heavier setup let ,\me know need to move up in weight so you can feel it.
On the trailer, here is another area that can have a lot of different options, and opinions. But for me have narrowed down to a few for now, reason I say this I keep trying all the new ones as they come out. Not even going to suggest a brand as there are many good ones out there, but will bring extra of what I use.
I am sure there are others that know a lot about Jig fishing on this forum, please chime in, no expert here but have fished for a while and feel very comfortable fishing with a Jig, Always have 2 setups for Jigs with me at all times.

Moving my time up to 8:30, and will have paddlers (Non Fishing) and paddlers fishing. So bring anyone all welcome as always.
Looks like the weather should hold. Please bring photo gear so we can get some good shots. If you have radios, would be great so the paddlers can get around for photo shots.
If anyone needs some fishing gear, let me know have plenty.

I might join you. Try to decided between this and trout fishing. With the rain today and front coming in the trout are sounding better but I been wanting to get out in my yak for a while. It's best at your age to stay on the banks...
