Jig with a slip bobber to change depths to find them.

Mepps are good baits, but if your fishing for crappie you'll hang up a lot. Jigs are much better choices.

Yup. I usually twitch it 2 or 3 times then let it sit for about 10 seconds then repeat.

I dont do a lot of creek fishing but I think you want to make sure to use a bobber stop so you can set the depth that you want the jig to stop at. Correct me if im wrong you guys that do this more than me.

when fishing the creek, change depths on the cork.... if you are close to the bank, make it shallow or close to the jig, and if you move it to the center of the creek, you can go deeper....the corks with a spring on the end work best ( thill) and the jigs with a spinner flash ( roadrunner) work best in murky to muddy water.....oh, fish ALL available cover you can before moving to next spot.....good luck!

I use 20# braided line and 6# mono for the leader. This is the best IMO. If you get hung up you only lose the leader and save the slip bobber. I like to use a weedless setup too with my plastic jigs. Good Luck.

With that being said...if you can't reach with your rod and are casting to cover...be prepared to get hung up. I TRY not to fish any laydowns or stumps that I am not familiar with unless I can do so with a VERTICAL presentation. Too many times have I cast to the cover...given the jig/bobber rig a couple of twitches or began reeling in, only to have it snag something under the water that I couldn't see, forcing me to break off. That being said I know how tempting it is to fish that cover so heavier line (or braid) and light wire hooks that straighten can save your rig at times...
