I need to replace the gas log starter pipe in my fireplace. I have the new ready to go, fits perfectly. My question is... which way do you face the holes in the pipe to allow the flame out?? I am thinking if straight up, it will fill up with ash and clog.

Forward, facing toward the rear of the fireplace or at an angle either way??

Yeah, I forgot to take note of how the old was positioned. blush

if its just for a starter either a little front or rear, won't matter.
angle it so it hits the logs the best when they are stacked.

After further research, I found pointing towards the rear at a 30 degree angle upward is what was recommended. Works good so far.

I do this to give the fire a boost when I first light it,
If you have the folding glass doors, when you close them leave a space of 2 inches between the doors in the center it will act as a bellows and create a draft that will help the fire go, but only leave then that way for 10 minutes or so, you can tell when fire gets going.
