I know I can't be the only one wondering if winter will ever make an appearance.... With the long term forecast showing nothing but rising temps and spring winds kicking out of the south, I'm starting to think the spawn just might come early this year....

Anyone have a crystal ball? I need to know whether I should begin de-winterizing the boat and stringing rods or sharpen by snow shovel!!!!

I'm worried about summer. If we couldn't cool down during winter, what will summer bring?

If your boat is still in the mothballs you are missing out on some of the best big bass fishing of the year. Its game on with these constant warming trends.
Time to restring those reels and prepare for battle.

I watch a blog by a guy named Frank Strait on Accuweather. He talks strictly about weather in the South and seems to be about as good as anyone I've seen. He nailed the big snow in East Texas two years ago, for instance.

He says there are signs that the global weather pattern is setting up for a big cold outbreak in February, maybe about two weeks out.

That figures since my tournament season starts in about two weeks on Palestine.

It's Texas! We will be covered in ice in a couple of weeks. Then it will be 110 before you know it. bolt

Duck season ends 01/29. The cold weather should follow within a week or two after the season ends.

I've been looking at every extended and long range weather forecast I can find and they all say the same thing. Drier than normal to normal for rainfall and warmer than normal to much warmer than normal for temps.

Don't know how accurate a 30 day forecast can be but thats what they say. One of the better sites I've found is www.lawrencevilleweather.com/extendedforecast/tx

Weather is usally dictated by the TPWD seasons. Its always cold shortly after duck season and a summer drought always is interupted by a rain just before dove season so every cow track and ditch has water so they wont fly into the tank you are hunting on

The good news is that we have had a fairly wet winter compared to typical La Nina winter. It seems that the zonal flow allowing the low pressure systems to come from the west would at least keep the artic air bottled up north. Maybe we can get lucky this year and continue to get the rains for the rest of the winter without the artic air. So that way, when we get the spring rains, the lakes fill back up...cross your fingers. I just hope we do not have the apocolyptic winds every weekend like last year, unless those winds bring rain.

I've been reading La Nina is breaking down which means we get wet.

Oh and for Accuweather, my fishing partner and I call it Inaccuweather for a reason. We stopped trusting them long ago. lol

yep it is strange, three days ago we were in the 40's for a high, then on Sunday night we went to 75 degrees and were under Tornado Warnings and Sever Thunderstorm Warnings and watches. I cant think about when the storm season really gets here. And yes I hope ya'll over there get alot of rain before summer gets here or the fishing will really be bad. Low lakes wont be the only problem.

+1, I am thinking about heading down to Amistad this weekend and looking at the 3 forecasts I usually look at. Weather Underground, NOAA, and Accuweather the first two show a promising forecast and Accuweather has outrageous winds forecasted, but the tricky part with Accuweather is they often do a complete flip flop of the forecast inside 12 hours.
