Thought about making the four hr drive this weekend and give her a shot. I have read the posts about the stacks but was wondering if the fishing is still holding up.

I used to fish Sandlin years ago but have never been on Monty any help for a 1st timer would be greatly appriciated. I am not looking for spots but would really appriciate some PM's that would point me in the right direction.

Thanks,

Justin

Ive been twice in past 30 days and only caught one fish, and that was about 16 hours of fishin... Fishing might be better due to its later in January. Honestly not real happy with that lake.

Get a map first. Go above the highway bridge where the timber starts on the west bank and throw a weightless watermelon Fluke. Work your way down that west bank. Lots of fish up shallow. Fish Slooooow and you will catch them. Try to go on a cloudy day or it will be really tough for the shallow water bite. If its cloudy or rainy you can catch them on a chartreuse squarebill crank too or spinnerbait. Lots of good places on the lake but if its your first time I couldn't tell you how to get to em....

went for 3 days a couple weeks ago...
day 1 - 2 fish
day 2 - 25 fish
day 3 - 14 fish

just fish the bridges or discharge area and you will catch fish. if that gets boring...go find a nice spot, there are some good fish in that lake. watch out for the game warden. you cannot tie up to the buoys or fish on the outside edges of the discharge area. we got a ticket for that exact thing, and he said he has been pounding that lake for the last 12 years. have fun!

Go to Fork. Monti is a fun fishing lake but nothing like Fork, IMO. Lot more water on Fork and that chance of a monster banana

If your looking to get a guide give gene a call for full day or half day trip. He will point you in the rite direction for your time on water. I have done half day trips with him when I haven`t been on lake for a while to get refreshed on whats going on.Gene Snider 903.638.1868

I didn't fish it this last weekend but did the weekend before and it was the toughest fishing I have ever had on that lake. Some normal go to patterns for me are fishing the timber near the creek channel bends with drop shots, t-rigs, jigs and shaky heads...if the fishing is tough i focus on the drop shot. The other go to is the pad stems with whatever you like to throw in there...either moving baits, weightless flukes or even t-rigs. These has produced for me every time I have ever been on the lake over the past 3+ years and should produce most days.
