Ok need a little help this is new to me

Today I use camera's cell phones, and a Flip for most of my work and normally use the video feature and peel a snapshot out of that. Thinking of getting a GoPro. mainly because it is water proof.

Questions:
Is there something better
HD or Digital, is digital good enough in most cases
Helmet cam the way to go if not why not

suggestions on the correct outfit and why

I just got a go pro hero 2 last week. I made my 1st video with it, yesterday at Wheeler Branch. I like it. its simple and light. I did 3 hours on 1 battery. I have more batteries on order so i can do enough video for a day. It doesn't come with the screw mount you will have to get that extra. It comes with a head strap mount and a few stick on mounts. The pole I chose was the Pan fish From yak attack. The water proof case won't let much sound in. It comes with a extra back you can switch out that lets sound in but makes it only water resistant not water proof.

Kodak make a less expensive one called a playsport. I opted for the go pro cause it seemed simpler and easier and way more ways to mount it.

Check out the YakAttack PanFish and PanFish Portrait for a mount for your kayak. I have a Kodak Playsport and the new GoPro Hero 2. The GP has a wider angle lens so you can capture more while fishing.

I use a GoPro Hero2 as well. Next month they're releasing the WiFi Back pac. It'll allow you to stream the video to your smartphone and be able to control your camera from it. I've got the roll bar mounts and bought a tripod mount for mine. I added the adhiesive floatation door to mine in the event I drop it overboard it'll float. I've tested it and it works.

Both the GoPro2 and GoPro do 1080P HD video. The gopro has a 5mp camera for still and the gopro 2 has a 11mp camera for stills not sure on the playsport or if the playsport will take stills.

Gopro better for POV videos. However the battery doesnt last as long as playsport and the builtin 11mgpixel camara sucks.

I own Go-Pros and one Playsport. the new Playsport does not allow battery exchange, it is built in. I have a pocket full of batteries I cannot use now. The field of view is quite narrow also compared to the Go-Pro. With the very wide angle on the Go-Pro you bet a bit of fish-eye effect, but you certainly get everything in frame you point at. You can re-center the frame and crop as needed in editing.

The Playsport has a remote that only costs $10 but you cannot turn the camera on with it. The camera will turn itself off after 10 minutes of inactivity to conserve battery and you have to crawl to wherever it is to re-power it up.

It is very hard to beat Ram mounts for positioning the cameras. With a small bit of engineering, the balls can be adapted to a carbon shaft of any length allowing some pretty creative shots.

Good luck and share what you get. Phill

Thanks for all the information, like the ram mount option this would work the best for me.

Still deciding but will let you know.

I have a couple of Go Pro's that I really like. I have one mounted on a Panfish behind me to mostly capture videos.

The other in front of me on a panfish portrait to capture still shots and some videos.

I just got some new batteries and wall charger. The new batteries are 1400mAh vs the battery that came with the gopro is 1100mAh. Higher capacity.

Wasabi GoPro Batteries
