My daughter and I headed out Wheeler Branch yesterday. This was our 1st time on the lake. The morning started out cold 39°. North wind 15 MPH We headed to the lee side for some exploring. We only caught one nice Largemouth bass but had about 10 bites that we got to the top before they shook loose. The fish were in 15 to 20 feet. The water at Wheeler Branch is very clear 5 - 8 ft visibility.

For those that don't know, Wheeler Branch only allows 15 "trailered" boats a day and there is a $25 launch fee for the boats. Power boats are not allowed to run the engine.

But heres the good Part! KAYAKS ARE FREE! and are not subject to the 15 boat limit. Just be sure not to use a trailered parking slot for you vehicle.

There is a $8.00 per person entry fee.

The lake is only 170 acres so you can get anywhere on it quickly in a kayak.

Heres a quick video I made battery ran out before I landed one.

Yeah, this is really a special place.

We should plan a group trip down there sometime.

With the NTKT dates being 03-24 and 04-21 what are some suggestions for a Saturday trip out there?

Feb 18th? March 3rd?

Those weekends dont get in the way of KATS or the Bass Master Classic and... I'm not on call for work smile

you don't have to stock crappie. they occur naturally in texas and breed like rabbits.
