I was out in my kayak earlier. Pretty sporty but I was in a protected area.

How do you rig a balloon rig and what is it used for?

No weight just a leader. Tie a balloon to line at desired depth above bait. Let spinning rod sit in rod holder with bail open and let the wind carry your bait out as far as you want.

You'll also want to use a circle hook because your bait will drag across the bottom until it drifts out far enough to reach the depth you set the ballon.

I use a 3-way rigged with a 3-5 oz. sinker and put my balloon to my leader with a life savor float it out to the depths till my life savor melts away. Sit back and wait for a bite with a cold barley pop. Braided line should work better with this because mono will stretch to much on a hook set.

X 100

This is how I understand balloning to be most effective. But of course not the only way.

I used the slip knot method and I evenually changed to the lifesaver method. Only I'll use a 1 oz weight and then I'll blow the ballon up big so it'll get out there alot faster and with a lot less wind. Tie the weight up right next to the ballon so there isn't alot of drag in the water
