Has anyone done it? I am very tempted to make a trip down there soon but can't quite convince myself its worth it.

Nope! Not at all. My first trip I went by myself......this trip there was 8 of us. We fished the county ramp area, under the bridge coming in, the tigers and the state park. Saw and talked to several game wardens and border patrol.

I don't recommend fishing at night......but I felt completely safe the entire time I was there. Trust me when I say "You don't need to paddle all over the lake to catch toads". We stayed at Oso Blanco and 90% of my fish were caught within 500 yards of the launch.......lots of 6's, 7's, 8's and a buddy caught 2 x 9's.

I have fished about 2.5 years out of a yak down there. Fished at bridges to get to the water... Paid at a private ramp last year up in the burro and caught a 9 pound and 9 ounce LMB in 12 inches of water in December. That is when the water was about 30 feet higher and there was lots of brush in the water at the time.

I have fished the state park area and the middle of the lake.

I will be headed there February 11 to the 17. Wife will fish with me, but your are welcomed to fish if yiou don't want to fish alone.

As you have guessed I have not fished Mexico side out of a yak... Takes to long to get to the better water.

Spawning right now and hope they will be again when I get there.

Good Luck.
