Cant wait for spawn so wanted to bring it up. What do bass hate in their spawn nest? What would you say the number one predator of the eggs are? Perch? Just curious what would be the best bait to throw. Didnt have as much luck on the worms and lizards last year as I had hoped. Fishing Central tx and south tx if that helps. Thanks, Trent

Anything that shouldn't be there it really doesn't matter if they are locked on.

JR Howard is right. Anything that doesnt belong in the nest they will pick it up and take it several feet away while trying to kill it then spit it out. But a crankbait, ive noticed in the past, they actauly seem to eat it.

does not matter at all. You just have to make the fish react.

Make her mad by hitting her with the weight and bait. Once she gets pi--ed and starts circling the bed real fast jerk bait in front of her she will inhale it.

Just get something in the nest and get her mad. I've caught a bass on its bed flipping a spinnerbait with no blades on its bed...had to take the blades off cause it kept biting the blades

I've used tubes, swimbaits, jigs, creatures, and quite a few other lures in the spawn but the most consistent and angriest reactions I've gotten have come on River2Sea nest raiders in cal tiger: http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/descpageRIVERSOFT-R2SNR.html

6 inch wat red fluke or lizard on a drop shot bout three inches off bottom. Let shakes in one spot real good. Another bonus tip slip a no 2 owner stinger treble hook ove main hook like a spin bait trailer hook.

Remember too....whatever bait you pitch into a bass' nest, if YOU remove it, the bass won't have to. So try and keep your tube, lizard, whatever in the nest until she can't take it anymore and she has to move it.

If they are finicky I can usually catch them on a floating minnow jerkbait. Just throw it out and Let it set above the nest. Thats the only bait I have never had one resist.

I love using an 8" lizard. I found some 70 degree water today on lake Dunlap and picked up 13 fish 15"- 19" in about 4' or less...all fish are really sporting some huge bellies so it wont be long now...barring any major cold fronts.

The lure itself is not as important has being able to keep it in the nest and is a color you can easily see since most bed fishing is visual.

My bait is that they will not like that giant beaver looking bait that Hoodoo makes. I saw it at the Anglers Pro Tackle show today. That thing is big. They were sold out though or I would have snagged me some.
