I've been thinking about trying some night fishing this summer. I see lights that mount on docks, lights that drop in the water, and lights that mount on the boat/kayak. My question is does the color of the light matter when it comes to attracting the baitfish?
Thx,
Shaun

Green lights to attract bait fish. Amber light to ward off mosquitoes/bugs from inside of boat

Make sure it is the proper frequency of light too, that does have an affect on the attracting properties.

My favorite night fishing is at RR in the summertime. We tie off to a big stump North of Wolf Island and hang one of those car headlamps in a round Styrofoam lights. Not sure what 'frequency' they are but I can tell you they attract bait fish and I've caught hundreds of fish using them them. The drawback (if fishing from a yak) is their size.

Shaun, I fish at night a lot. I've already started working on getting my LEDs for my yak. I use green LEDs. Here's a pic of my Bluewave it has 600 down each side.

The green LEDs on your yak, are you building your own or doing the kit thing? I am looking into setting up my yak also.

I just bought a random set of "waterproof" led strips off ebay to use as navigation lights. If they perform well I was thinking of doing something similar to what DEERSTRANGLER has done to his boat, to my kayak.

I didn't know there was a freq requirement though...that's interesting. Now that it has been mentioned it does make sense that the plankton this light is intended to attract would prefer a specific range. Like grow bulbs in an indoor plant nursery.

Good heavens those are bright!!!! I'm liking those! Are you going to do a build thread on you led kayak lights? I would like to learn more.

When I get all my stuff in I'll do a build up and video it. I like the 3528 waterproof LEDs. I make my controls wireless with a dimmer remote.

smile Oh ok, in that case your off the hook. I am planning on doing some night trips with a few kayakers this summer. I hope you will be able to trade the boat for a kayak for one night.

I can't wait to see the dimmer remote. Sounds cool.

We do a kayak night tourney in the heat of the summer called Dusk2Dawn. Lots of different lighting setups on kayaks. The best one so far ( and what the winners use) is the use of black lights on the water because it doesn't affect the fishing but you can see your line like crazy. Of course you'll need a 360 light but make it small and get it as far back in the boat as possible. The white light blows your night vision so use a red lens head light to tie your lures. Night time fishing is awesome, all the critters come out and its spooky. The bats will swoop you too
