I am going on my first trip in Feb. to the British Virgin Islands. Sailing out of Tortola with stops at Cooper island, Anaganda island, Jost Van Dyke Island and etc. Would like to troll from the sail boat and hit the flats by wading or in a dingy.

Looking for trolling and wade fishing spots, lures and techniques. Understand the bone and tarpon fishing can be decent in some spots??????

Any information or tips would be appreciated.

Trolling:

Rig up blue/white Ilander.

If you know how to rig Ballyhoo, naked or with the Ilander, then that's even better.

A "bird and turd" is another good rig to troll. It's a Boone Bird with a brown or black Moldcraft lure trailing.

Braid Marauders and Yo-zuri Bonita are good for a variety, especially wahoo. My favorite color is purple/black.

High-speed feather troll lures are great too.

A Shimano TLD 25 (or similar) on a 6'-7' stand-up/trolling rod would be an excellent, inexpensive choice. There's better reels but it's hard to beat the price.

You'll need leader material and know how to tie/rig leaders.

For basic ease, you can't go wrong with a blue/white Ilander though. That lure is probably responsible for more catches and species than any other. You can buy frozen and rigged Ballyhoo but they aren't cheap.
