I went to Steele Creek Park on Lake Whitney to do some banking today. Found gold tinged water, a few dead fish including catfish, and some sick gar with blood red beaks. Looks like this warm weather is sent us some early golden algae.

I contacted TPWD Kills and Spills team. They did not seem to be concerned with the small number of fish I saw and said they were not going to come out. I really don't think she believed me. It is the wrong time of year. but it has been a warm winter.

I believe a number of 'small' fish kills as a result of algae blooms are just par for the course these days. Of course, they all have the potential to produce devastating results, although most don't.

Still, I will be praying this one doesn't spread.
